Argh, just did a big update of the site. But it seems the new photos gallery page wont load <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="” title=”Sad” />
Plus the link to this forum is wrong <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="” title=”Sad” /> Hopefully I’ll have these things fixed soon. Although I’m not sure what the problem with the Gallery is.Ryan,
Edit: forum bug is now fixed.
Ryan HellyerMemberExcellent pickings Kyle!
Although I think some Beasts might have a few issues with you! And Matt A will do his best to prove you wrong. Oh yeah, and I’ll laugh at anyone who tries to take on Toby, he’ll simply squash anyone who comes near him.
Ryan,
Ryan HellyerMember1:05 is fine for the next league coz we’ll be running over two nights
Ryan HellyerMemberHere’s an email from me to Marita Soper (Gore club organiser) I thought people might be interested in.
Ryan,
Hi Marita,
Am emailing about two things:Firstly Matt Aitken is organising games for a new team called the Dunedin Phantoms. My old team the Ducks is gone and has been replaced by this new one. Matt can be contacted at
.Secondly, below is a part of an email I got a few minutes ago from Kyle Matthews who along with me helps organise the DIHL (Dunedin Ice Hockey League). Basically he’s suggesting that we ask other clubs (ie: yours) to compete in the Dunedin Ice Hockey League A-grade next season (starting September). The A-grade is a new thing for us and will be a significant step up from the existing open competition we have at the moment and should be a about the right level for your club, all games will be non-checking. This would require you travelling for every single game which would be annoying I know but we could try and arrange the game times to make the travelling a little less troublesome for you, we could also arrange it so that travelling teams only have to play say three round robin games for the season, whereas local teams would play six, we’d just make all your games count for double points to compensate for the less games. This is just an idea at this stage, even if your club is keen we’d still need to run it by the DIHA etc. first and work out suitable ice times.
Cheers,
Ryan
Message from Kyle Matthews:
At some stage, I wonder if we should consider allowing an outside team
to play in the DIHL. Like, if Gore wanted to put a team in, how could
that be managed. Maybe have them only turning up every second week
during round-robin, and playing once at 7pm, and again at 9pm? One of
our teams would have to play twice in a night as well – maybe once at
6, and again at 9. I don’t know if that would work for them, but it’d
be a good way to help them out, and build our competition if it could.Or alternatively looking at not having their games during the week, but
on a Saturday and telling teams that they have to be prepared to play
one Saturday game each during the DIHL. I’m not sure if any teams
outside of Dunedin would be keen, but I know they have problems down
there with finding people to play against, so I’d be curious to hear if
they’d be keen to travel that much. In the upcoming competition, for
example, an outside A grade team would have to travel 4 times (3 times
to complete 6 round robin games, once more for final). An outside B
grade team would probably have to travel 5 times (3 to complete 5 round
robin, plus 2 for semi finals and finals week).Ryan HellyerMemberI’ve never heard of that before. I’ll look into it.
Ryan,Ryan HellyerMemberCrazily we’re going to run out of server space soon! We’re currently using ~80 MB out of 100 MB!
There are higher quality versions of the 320×240 res. videos here…
http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/videos/unused/
I haven’t bothered posting them on the main site as we’ll eventually run out of room, but they’re there for your amusement.Ryan,
Ryan HellyerMemberI’ve been getting tons of requests (tons=three) for more photos of the DIHL, so I’ve now added a whole crap load of them. There’s also some new videos on the videos page too.
Ryan,
Ryan HellyerMemberAnyone wanna volunteer to do the stats next season?
That git who used to do them should retire I think ops:
Ryan HellyerMemberI’ve increased the maximum avatar size to 12 kB now. Hopefully that will be big enough for you.
If that’s still not big enough then you’re definitely doing something grossly wrong and you should send your avatar to me to have a look at/compress for you. This is a 235×170 pixel image of me and it’s only 10 kB I think. So you can definitely make these things with very small file sizes. I did that with Paint Shop Pro but if you use Adobe Photoshop or The GIMP then you can compress them even further – albeit with more compression errors.
[img:1uh7h7zk]http://www.dunedinicehockey.co.nz/photos/150x215framed/ryanhellyer.jpg[/img:1uh7h7zk]This one was compressed with The GIMP, it’s 18 kB but also 640×640 resolution!

My avatar is about 3.5 kB I think.
What programs are you using to compress/shrink them?I didn’t realise that most of the gallery photos are over 6 kB! They seem to work anyway though, they just haven’t been compressed very much that’s all. You shouldn’t need that much file space though.
Ryan HellyerMember"matt a":sf280geb wrote:The “total” column in the “total points including semi-finals” is the same as before semis. naughty.[/quote:sf280geb]Ah, that column shouldn’t be there. Nobody got any more points for the semis as such so the numbers didn’t get added. I’ll delete the column next time I’m updating the stats.
Ryan HellyerMember"Kyle":156mssn2 wrote:OK, there’s no way Matthew Reay can have 33 goals, because at 3 goals a game, there haven’t been 11 games.[/quote:156mssn2]Lol, I’ll fix that up, just a typo.
"Kyle":156mssn2 wrote:The ‘Points after the Round Robin’ after the round robin are still messed up, but I presume you’ve given up on that.[/quote:156mssn2]Er, what’s wrong with them? I thought everything was perfect now.
Ryan HellyerMemberstats updated, I’ll await the corrections!
Ryan HellyerMemberStats now up, albeit bound to be wrong as I’d downed a few shots before sorting them out last night.
Oh yeah, and Go DUCKS! First place and undefeated in the round robin <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” />
Ryan HellyerMemberI guess I hadn’t really considered not having SK8 in the team name. It certainly makes finding a name a lot easier. If SK8 doesn’t request for their name to be in the title then we could flag it.
Heat would certainly fit in with the orange theme.
It might be better for us to just email bomb everyone with this info. though as probably the only people to look in here will be me, you, Matt A and possibly Tim. Actually that’s quite a few considering, but I’m sure the rest of the team would like to know what’s going on as well.
I sent your post to Darcy so he knows who to contact.
