Actually Kyle
I have organized a for a specialist orange boy, imported from Florida
He grew up on a little orange farm, in Orlando, and he has been cutting oranges before he could walk.
He spent 3 years in AAA College hockey handing out Oranges, unfortunately he didn’t have the mental stamina to step up to a Pro level. He Has agreed to come over here, unfortunately he takes up an import spot, but I feel the benefits of having our team properly refreshed at each period break, far outweigh a goal scorer.
P.S. I can’t seem to get my tongue out of my cheek
Azzy77MemberWhy is the Jets goalie wearing high-school goalie pads??
Did someone arrange it with the schools?
I certainly don’t know about it?Azzy77MemberIf anyone actually read my rants they would realise I make absolute no sense, and shouldn’t even be put in charge of tying my own shoes, let alone a hockey team.
And thats a good point Ryan raises, kick ass imports rock everybodies world, no ones going to say sorry Patrick you are only a bit better than Aaron, he’s taking the spot.
When I talk about foriegn players giving way to local I meant, when the situation is you have two really good players one local, one foreign that have similar abilities the local should get the spot.
I guess what I am trying to get at is since you are only allowed 5 imports dressed, than the imports you get better be freaking awesome, cos you don’t want to waste a spot.
Cos the other teams will be trying to make sure their foreigners are the best.Azzy77MemberWhat you talking bout, its Mark.
I was talking bout what vpatrol (vince) said, about debate being healthy
Azzy77MemberWell said Vince we were typing at same time, debate shows there is passion.
Azzy77MemberUm no one is in this team yet, nobody is guaranteed of making this team. Nobody knows if we are getting this team.
So as far as this discussion goes, this is a bunch of Hockey fans debating the issues around team selection, that doesn’t mean thats how team selection is going to go. It could very well be all people from outside the region which I hope doesn’t happen because it sort of defeats the point.
But Rugby fans debate whose going to be in All Blacks, till the cows come home, they also why they can’t f***ing win a world cup for years, doesn’t effect selection. Its not like this is a committee discussion on here, saying foreign players aren’t welcome, its a bunch of nerds, and arm-chair experts trying to predict how team selection will go.
Nobody I have read so far, has said they are in this team and they will be damned if things aren’t run there way. They are just fans of Dunedin hockey, having a discussion on a Hockey forum.
Maybe I am completely wrong about the imports in NZIHL, and when I was talking about precedence to Locals (NZers) I was talking across the board all teams in NZIHL. There is a limit on foreigner players and there is a reason, we want to grow Hockey here, so foreigner players are trialling for less spots in every team, whether our proposed team, or the any of the established teams. Thats just the nature of a foreign player cap.If you have different views on foreigner players in NZIHL i would love to hear them its a debate, maybe you feel we wish to make this sport more of a spectacle so maybe more foreign players need to come in I don’t know.
But the point is no one hear has any say about anything, so at the end of the day whatever anybody says means diddily-squat, just like callers to talk-back radio, but that doesn’t mean they don’t speculate on things they can’t control.
P.S. I love you foreign players, if you think you got what it takes get over here and trial. But fair ye warned there is a cap.

[/quote:1awi1g62]I said at the very top of my post it wasn’t directed at you. For the rest of this post when I say local I mean someone from New Zealand,or who is eligible to play as a New Zealander
That is just my personal feelings on imports full stop, if a import and a local are evenly matched than the spot should got to the local.
My feelings are a wee bit stronger on that issue too, I think that the Foreign player needs to be a lot better than the local player he is competeing with, otherwise the imports aren’t serving their purpose to grow the game in New Zealand, and are just making up the numbers.
And as previously stated there are plenty of kiwi players to make up the numbers.I don’t have anything personal against imports, just I feel their role in this competition is increase the playing ability here, and if they are not really really good, they are just taking up spots.
That may sound harsh, but again its what I think, no one elses views.
I might just end with saying I have no issues with you coming to trial Vince, I am just airing my views on imports. For all I know you are twenty times better than Toby, Tony Pasco (could be useful as U20 player) or me or any other goalie that turns up to trial.
Azzy77MemberThis is written, if we get the team, I crossed my toes last night and its freaking sore, also this is not, I repeat NOT directed at Vince this is stuff everyone wishing to play here needs to think about in my opinion….
Its not a Dunedin Super League team, Its a second Southern team based in Dunedin.
So probably Southern would be keen for its local player spots to go to Southerners first, to build the level down here. That said, if someone from outside the region is clearly better I am sure they would be taken.
Another issue, though is living close to the team is important, so that impromptu practices can be attended after we get destroyed by someone, I think correct me if I am wrong the stampede practiced twice a week together without Simon and Stefan And Ryan, which may have accounted for their lower ice time, (NB// That is pure speculation about ice time, plenty of other factors to consider) And next year, there will be team gym sessions, off-ice practice, on-ice practice etc etcThe other issues to remember are that we have limited spots for foreign born players and transfer cards have to be paid which ain’t cheap, so if you are foreign born, you have to greatly outperform locals(NZers) for your spot,to warrant your inclusion. Because be sure none of the other teams are going to carry foreign players, especially after Kaszala, the foreign players are there to lift the standard of New Zealand hockey. We can MAKE UP THE NUMBERS with New Zealanders.
Also we need to keep a certain amount of spots open to younger players. So sometimes a slightly stronger older player may be dropped to include a younger player. So competition for all spots will be fierce, trials is the only way to go. And make no mistake there WILL be trials.
Bearing in mind, that previous developed relationships, should be taken into account.Again I will reiterate, this is my opinion nothing to do with Dunedin Hockeys views, you may disagree with me on some or all of my points, thats cool, this what the forum is for
Azzy77MemberTwo options I see
1. Give SIHL its own letterhead
2. I don’t know this for a fact, but it looks like SIHL being hosted on our website, so retain our header, but add .co.nz at the end of it.Azzy77MemberI wasn’t trying to discourage anyone for trialling, I guess I wasn’t clear enough, I was genuinely curious about why Vince didn’t want to play in Canterbury, I wasn’t saying don’t come here we don’t want you….
I repeat genuine curiosity about state of Canterbury hockey in Vinces eyes?
I mean if you are willing to commute, 5 hours or whatever, most weekends must been something up huh?Azzy77MemberWhy don’t you play for Christchurch/Canterbury?
Thats just genuine curiosity.
Do you not like the coach? don’t like the players?Cause you live up there right?
Azzy77MemberWe have a XXX practise now? When the hell is that? why wasn’t i told
Azzy77MemberRyan you are always playing OUT
Did I just say that?Azzy77MemberThe decision to stage a practise this week was last minute.
But I think most of the other practises were aware they were finishing last week. Certainly the midgets and juniors knew.
Maybe Advanced and Intermediate didn’t but from the turnout last week, I think most people had a fair inkling.
On the technology issue, I think a lot of people have email addresses the only person I can think offhand that doesn’t is Nigel Dobson. The issue is, that unlike us ubernerds most people find checking there emails more than once every two days a chore, as opposed to me who checks about once every 3-4 hours depending on how close the deadline for assignments is. THe shorter the more often I check.
With Texting, people are more likely to have read it. I text bombed, the information to everyone who I had a cellphone number for and jackie is going to pay me the whopping 4$ from the club, based on 20c a text.
I wouldn’t think it would be that hard if we made email and cellphone mandantory information at registration, to load them into a central database would it.
Even if you setup a hotmail/gmail account, with groups midgets/seniors etc it would be fairly easy to send bulk emails every time they need to be sent. And one person, or the club just buys a telecom phone and loads everyones numbers onto it, and texts it out, that way you can send 500 msgs a month for 10$.
Seems like everyone is trying to over complicate the process of keeping everyone in the loop.
Azzy77MemberUm i just had terrible thought Jackie definately told me juniors are finished
I am not 100% on midgets so you should check that
