MemberThis is slightly out of topic, but …
That SNC team which played yesterday looked to be very strong. Mike Sam, Steve Jackson and Larry Wheeler were all there (not sure about Mike actually, but I think I saw him). Will they be playing all season? Is there a team roster for this squad available to see? It looks like an interesting team, lots of quality players and no real weak points. Could be tough to beat in the SIHL SNC grade this season. The team last season looked quite messy, inconsistent players (ie: different ones each time) and a bit of a hotch potch of abilities and attitudes. It would be great to see a solid team come out of Dunedin, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to clean up in this grade a piece of cake as the level really isn’t that high.
Ryan,
PS: The Beasts are of course infinitely superior to all other teams.

If it has worked, then there should now be a bit of text showing the subject to the left of the posting time.

MemberI hadn’t thought of that. I figured the little tags which show which topics have new posts in them would suffice.
There’s probably an off the shelf MOD which’ll do the trick. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I’m fiddling with the software. Should be fairly easy.

Personally, I log on to these forums about 5 times a day because I’m a geek with no life, so I don’t mind post trawling for “fuck”s and “shit”s and whatnot.[/quote:ndsm4kav]
Regular spam wouldn’t increase, but sure, there might be a few fuck’s and shit’s in there we need to get rid of. I don’t think nzicehockey.co.nz is that popular so it’s unlikely to make a huge difference to our traffic, but hopefully enough to fill another forum category thingy. We can always ban people who swear excessively. I think there’s a few shits in there already probably, I don’t think I’d bother deleting those unless they were excessive, fuck I probably would though, just coz I know it’ll annoy some happy clappy people.
Feel free to delete shits if you want though, or any other word people may consider offensive. I think your “Rapists Team” comment would offend people more than the word shit!

Did you take it away?[/quote:1n9vznht]Well you didn’t seem to think it was very interesting so I pulled it down. I’m just trying to get people using the darn thing, these things seem to take off once they’re being used, but if no one posts in them, no one looks and hence no one thinks of posting there.
I messed it up coz I only deleted my post, not the topic.
Random fact for the day: that Easton Cup video has been downloaded 40x (high res) and 30x (low res.), not too shabby at all really. That’s a lot more downloads than when I stuck them in the main gallery.
Hopefully the NZIHF will get back to me in a few weeks about hosting a forum for them and we might get some more traffic in here that way. I’m sure there’s a demand for it, this forum is pretty busy as it is (considering how big the club is) so if the whole country is involved we should be able to get a lot more chatter going on and keep things like the videos section etc. much busier. We’ll see I guess ….

Um, how bout no!
I actually like the “Phantoms”, but I’m not sure how the current team would feel about giving up their name for the club. I also think their (supposedly) orange colour scheme could be a possibility.
I also like the idea of sticking to the current “Penguins” name as it does signify something to do with Dunedin and is kinda ice related. A new colour scheme is definitely in order though, red and black is a little too Canterbury’ish for my liking.

Member"Kyle":mnk3kdwz wrote:Nice job penguins.[/quote:mnk3kdwz]Is that their current team name? There seemed to be some debate the last I heard.
Off-topic: the marketing/branding sub-committee are meeting this week to hammer out some sort of plan for naming, colour schemes etc. for the DIHA for the future. If you have any suggestions please email them to either myself or Steve Jackson for consideration.

MemberHmm, I’ll flag all the drafting related stuff for the mean time. That’ll take a bit of thinking about. I’ll also need to come up with a better argument <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt="
” title=”Tongue” /> At the moment my explanations are a bit waffly so I’ll go think of some way to explain my point better.

MemberBefore anyone reading this gets confused. Be aware that what we’re talking about here are “actual” teams, not league organised ones such as most of the teams in the DIHL. Also, these rules are mainly being developed for the future. At the moment, the DIHL isn’t quite serious enough for these rules to be of much consequence, but once things get more serious they’re likely to become quite important. The Christchurch SNC operates a fairly similar procedure, although theirs is somewhat more complicated than ours.
The teams which would be affected by these things are the likes of the Beasts and possibly John McGlashan etc. who are eligible to recruit players via a draft pool, not just teams which are randomly formed at the beginning of each new DIHL season by the league organisers (most DIHL teams are the latter).
"Kyle":3bn819ih wrote:1. We need to either increase or reduce the size of teams to incorporate more people or to help create an extra team by taking some players out of one or more teams.[/quote:3bn819ih]That’s not appropriate IMO. If you have a team, you have a team. I can’t see why you’d forcibly change their roster. Kinda like the Beasts in the Easton Cup business. If there’s a team, they may not want to change the number of players on their team just to accommodate a bunch of other teams who are short on numbers. Of course, you could always [b:3bn819ih]ask[/b:3bn819ih] the team to put some of their players back into the draft pool to solve that problem and hopefully they’d be willing to accommodate.
"Kyle":3bn819ih wrote:2. To increase (or more likely) reduce the strength of a team to fit into the grade appropriately.[/quote:3bn819ih]
Why the heck would you do that? That’s what the grading system is for. The grading system was introduced so that you wouldn’t need to control the strength of teams."Kyle":3bn819ih wrote:The last thing I’d want when I go to a team and say they need to lose a couple of their best players (as I did twice earlier this season)[/quote:3bn819ih]
That’s because the gradings for 2007 weren’t done in time, not the strength of the team."Kyle":3bn819ih wrote:Anyway, since the League Committee accepts entries, and won’t accept the entry until they’re happy with it, the reality is if the League Committee doesn’t do it, then the team’s going to have to do it themselves.[/quote:3bn819ih]
Not if they’re an existing team which is acquiring players from the draft pool."Kyle":3bn819ih wrote:I’d be tempted to add instead, at the end of the sentence, ‘in consultation with the affected team'[/quote:3bn819ih]How about “with permission from the affected team”? This should never be necessary IMO, except for in extreme circumstances, ie: if a teams gradings were obviously grossly out of wack from reality. Particularly if a team had knowingly obscured the level of the teams players.

"Kyle":3nzbs4im wrote:Re-reading the disciplinary section raises a question for me. If I get banned from X number of games for something, I have to be listed on the scoresheet of those games for a team to serve my ban.Presumably that means that I have to have paid for that game (either pre-paid, or casually paid etc). I think this should be added in ‘listed on the scoresheet and paid for the game in which the ban is being served’ or something.[/quote:3nzbs4im]
I’m not sure how to word that in the document so haven’t corrected it. Any suggestions?
"Kyle":3nzbs4im wrote:Rule 6.3. The IIHF rulebook now includes body-checking, so instead of what we have there, it should read something like IIHF rule 541 (women body-checking) will be applied to all players. This would go into 6.4 too.[/quote:3nzbs4im]I don’t like the idea of referring to a female specific rule when we’re not using it in that way. The rule will stipulate directly in our rule book is exactly the same anyway so not sure this is necessary. There doesn’t seem to be any other instances of the term “body-check” in the IIHF rule book, so nothing else to refer to but that female specific rule – which I’m fairly sure was in the old rule book too as I think that’s where I scavenged our rule from.
