MemberWouldn’t it be less work than running the DIHL? Essentially all you’d need to do is write down minutes for meetings and reply to/send emails. Or am I missing something here.
Most of what Joyce does wouldn’t be covered under her duties as secretary anyway.
Unless of course you feel like manning the gear room and doing all the score box stuff as well <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt="

MemberIn case any of don’t realise, I am waiting for confirmation from some of you (Chris has already) to confirm that the new forum is okay and that I should switch it over. It’s a pretty big switch and I wont be going back once it’s done.

MemberInteresting insight there. I agree entirely – hard not to really ….
How bout Kyle for DIHA secretary next year <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="
” title=”Smiley” /> You could help sort a lot of these problems out before they become problems then <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="

Go Kyle! Vote for Kyle as new DIHA secretary.

Shouldn’t they practice as a team therefore?[/quote:h9mcijqi]AFAIK they didn’t have enough people attending to justify the practice. Neither was the SNC practice. Practices cost $210/hour, so 21 players at $10 each are needed. Aren’t the women combining with the SNC/Beasts practice? – that’s what Mark was suggesting at work today.
"Kyle":h9mcijqi wrote:My question is, what’s happening with the time that was contracted to Jenel. That SNC practice is time that we agreed to provide work for her. Something else will have to be thrown in to make up the time for her.[/quote:h9mcijqi]I’m not sure she’s been paid for the correct amount of time yet at all. At any rate, it’s cheaper for the club to combine the practices, that way they’re making more money out of it. Plus there’s two good coaches for the womens practices (James as well) so they’ll easily be able to handle the extra players attending. The club also said they’d aim to get at least 20 hours work for her per week for her, but there’s been [b:h9mcijqi]no[/b:h9mcijqi] attempt to reach this. My attempt to generate some more hours was stomped on by Joyce and Jackie dead in it’s tracks <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="

These practices are in a disarray, whoever is involved needs a kick in the ass and told to sort their shit out beforehand. The treatment of the Beasts recently was absurd.

MemberWell the site only costs $39.99+GST per year for the domain name – yes I know it’s possible to get them for $29.95 but I couldn’t be bothered shopping around.
The web hosting is free though, it runs off the back of my own personal account so doesn’t cost the club a cent.
I’m all for advertising. I’ve looked at using Google Adwords, but the amount of money we’d make wouldn’t really justify how annoying the ads would be (<$40/year probably).
However if we could get direct advertising, say from SK8 or something like that, then it may be more doable. AFAIK we get more traffic on here than any other hockey sites in New Zealand so it wouldn’t be a bad investment. I’m pretty sure a decent proportion of our New Zealand visitors [b:35xtysg3]aren’t[/b:35xtysg3] from Dunedin, probably players from other regions, so they wouldn’t be just marketing to Dunedinites – but this kind of thing is impossible to track accurately, so who knows.
So in a nutshell, yep, advertising is a good idea, but only if we can get a decent amount for it. I’m not keen on cluttering it up with annoying banner ads or pop ups or anything unless we’re getting a decent amount of coin for it.
Ryan,
PS: I’d need to run any advertising by the DIHA first, but can’t imagine they’d mind though.

Member"Kyle":2jr0atho wrote:Umm, that’s a problem. Because if casual players no longer need to fall in the grade range outlined on the event notice, then I don’t think there’s anything preventing a highly graded player playing in the B league as a casual player.[/quote:2jr0atho]
True, so …
[quote:2jr0atho]11.3 Casual players must fall within the rating range and not cause the average rating for the team to increase above the average rating outlined on the Event Notice.[/quote:2jr0atho]"Kyle":2jr0atho wrote:What do you mean? Include the rule on the event notice?[/quote:2jr0atho]
No, I just mean include a section on the event notice saying that the teams are aren’t allowed to compete. At the moment it’s ambigous as they don’t say anything about the issue. At the moment the assumption is that team entries are always allowed unless otherwise stated"Kyle":2jr0atho wrote:A league is any competition involving one or more games, according to 1.5. That covers the Easton Cup.[/quote:2jr0atho]
Yes it does, but I’m not sure anyone would consider the Easton Cup to be a league in the general sense of the word. I’d rather the refer to it as a “competition” as that covers tournaments, leagues etc. Purely a wording thing to save confusion.Ryan,

MemberAnother error in the rules I’ve discovered:
[quote:1j3gbkcp]11.3 Casual players must fall within the Grade Range outlined on the Event Notice.[/quote:1j3gbkcp]
needs to be changed to:
[quote:1j3gbkcp]11.3 Casual players must not cause the average grade for the team to increase above the average grade outlined on the Event Notice.[/quote:1j3gbkcp]
otherwise there will be situations where teams can sign up for a league with a totally under graded team and then stack themselves up by recruiting ridiculously good casual players. Not a rule change per se but vagule on the same topic:
[quote:1j3gbkcp]9.2 The event notice of each league may or may not allow the entry of entire teams. If this is the case, several rules below do not apply.[/quote:1j3gbkcp]
I think it would be prudent to include this on every event notice. The last two DIHL seasons have been missing this.We also need to change some of the references to ‘league’ as they don’t apply to competitions such as the Easton Cup. One of the original drafts I prepared of the rule book originally took this into account, but was scrapped in favour of focusing on the DIHL.
Ryan,
PS: I’ve fully removed the 9.11 comment from the original post now.

” title=”Smiley” /> Congratulations premier team guys!
Apart from their last game against Dunedin when they were missing all their Ice Blacks, I think that’s the first time the Queenstown Rangers have lost a game in quite some time – maybe four years? Anybody able to confirm that?Ryan,
