Email sent to about 22 players, will send to a stack more shortly once I track their addresses down.

    [quote:1esqa5g2]Hi everyone,
There is now a confirmed game on at 4pm on Sunday afternoon against the Beasts as their games against Queenstown have been cancelled (Queenstown pulled out, reason unknown).

If you or anyone you know wants to play then please email me back asap to confirm you will be there. Feel free to invite others to play, just make sure you email me to let me know who’s coming so I know when/if to stop recruiting people.

Who plays is entirely open, although obviously players who are around the Beasts level would be most appropriate, if you’re on this mailing list then you’re roughly in the right ball park.

I don’t have a full contact list at work, so will be emailing a bunch more people later on. Hope to see you all on Sunday <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

    Ryan,

PS: feel free to volunteer to take over the organising of this team – I REALLLY won’t mind <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

so what’s the process of being able to use this thing? We just turn up at the rink anytime we want and say we are here to use the shooting gallery and go and use it, or do we need a key or something?

At the moment it seems to be free and there’s no lock on the door. I’m certain that will be changing shortly though. Details will be posted when they become available.

Nope, that’s Jaimee, she’s peewees goalie and could be an option as well.

Yeah, Olivia might be it. I know it has a ‘v’ in it for sure. I think I have Olivia’s email somewhere.

And yep, Neil is added to the Beasts forum list.

    Been, seen and loved it <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

I tried both ice pucks and inline pucks tonight. They both worked fine, albeit the ice pucks aren’t too good for puck handling practice but they’re fine for shooting with. I haven’t tried skating on it yet (inline) but I’ll probably have a crack tomorrow night and see how it goes. It looks like it’ll be grippy enough as is, but once the construction is totally over I volunteer to mop the hell out of it to remove any dust and grime which is stuck to it at the moment.

The surface is slick enough that a few layers of tape should stand up to quite a few slap shots. So as long as you’re careful, your fancy carbon stick should be safe. Personally I’m too lazy to replace my tape so I’ll be sticking an ABS blade on my spare shaft, plus ABS is slipperier on concrete. ABS blades are bullet proof on smooth concrete so should last for yonks, just be careful of those fragile wood and composite blades.

Also, I’m not sure how long that goal of Zanzee’s is going to last up there. I put a dent in it the first time I shot a puck at it! Plus there’s a bunch of other dents in it already. There’s a bunch of goals lying around (6 in total) so even if Zanzee’s one does die we do have replacements. Zanzee’s one is far prettier though, it’s still shiny and red <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” /> Plus the shooter tutor is really handy – no point practicing shooting a puck into an open net <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt=":P” title=”Tongue” />

    Ryan,

PS: thanks to Paul, Joe, Hans and Bode for all the work they put into building this thing.

Plus the cost for re-riveting your chassis unless you have the balls to have a crack at it yourself – not recommended IMO.

I can never remember the name of that little girl who plays in goal on Thursday nights. Can anyone remember? Does anyone have her email address? She may be needed if Becky can’t/won’t play.

Email I just sent to a whole bunch of players to make sure they’re aware that I ‘may’ be recruiting them shortly for an impromptu hockey game

    [quote:otv4kuao]Hi everyone,
This isn’t guaranteed or anything. But the Beasts ‘may’ be looking for a team to play on Sunday. The Queenstown team they were scheduled to play has pulled out and the team seems keen to sort out a replacement team to play instead.

I’ve suggested that a bunch of you try to pull a team together as you’re roughly in the right ball park to play against us without giving us a total hammering. I just wanted to keep you all informed so you know that I ‘may’ ask you at the very last minute to turn up for a game on Sunday. Also, it would be great if someone would volunteer as team manager/recruitment person <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Below is a forum post I left in the (private) Beasts forum.

I’ve been trying to convince some of the other players to form a second team, along the same lines of the Beasts but mainly made up of players from the womens team.

Mark, lemme know if you want me to get them to front up with a team and when the game would be. They’ve definitely got the players, just a matter of getting them organised. I’m fairly certain I can get them to pull a team together in time if you let me know ASAP if that’s what you want done.

    [u:1qh6v08h]The lineup I’m thinking of would be:[/u:1qh6v08h]
    1  Deb Handcock
    2  Kara Ross
    3  Tess ??
    4  Anna Craw
    5  David Willan
    6  Anthony Cross
    7  Zanzee Pielak-Jones
    8  Megan Gilchrist
    9  Mallory Handcock
    10 Phil Handcock
    11 Drew Handcock
    12 Becky Brassett (G)
    13 Kyle Matthews
14 Jenel Bode – NOT AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND THOUGH
15 Deanna ?? – that chick from Edmonton – NOT AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND THOUGH
    16 Deanna Pielak-Jones
    17 Clair Sharpin
    18 Phil Pielak-Jones
    19+ a whole bunch I’ve forgotten about

    Ryan,

PS: Mark, I need a reply to this ASAP or it’ll be too late

I built one of those! Albeit mine did not have boards, lines or a full-size goal and my zamboni consisted of the occasional bucket of hot water.

Unsurprisingly I ran inside immediately after that photo was taken! Goosebump central.

There’s a link off the main page as well; below the latest news postings.

Plus once I’ve got everything sorted I was thinking of having a NEWS button in the main menu with a dropdown so that you can access boards with “News Archive”, “International News” and possibly others but I’m not sure what.

So you think it should be it’s own separate forum?
I was thinking of it being sort of like the News Archive thing, not necessarily used that much. There are other sources of NHL news so I didn’t think ours would be all that popular.

I’m pretty flexible though, so can make it appear in the main index if you think that would be best.

    Ryan,

EDIT: I’ve filled out the form now too, fingers crossed it works. NHL.com has a Google page rank of 8 which is pretty damn good! So if they do fix it then it may have quite a big impact on our own page ranking.
