They should be about the ride size for you I think. They’re in the back of my car (well, Stu’s) at the moment, so just remind me tomorrow and you can take a look.

Dudley version 2.0 seems oblivious to the game on Monday.

I asked a bunch of goalies to play in the game after ours and he said he would as long as he can get a ride there. He’s not playing in the game afterwards though as Toby Shuck replied to my email first. If I’d known version 1.0 was in town I’d have recruited him instead.

A right handed stick is a right handed stick no matter where you are.

I’m not 100% sure when we’re arriving in to Dunedin. But if the team are interested and we’re here in time, I’ll arrange a dinner somewhere and will email you all with an invitation to join us.

Erm, I will be playing in the game. Um … which team is yet to be decided …

I do feel left out and rejected!

It’s also useful for us to see what you are sending out. If you get inundated with requests to play it’s helpful to know what you have and haven’t done so we know what to do next time.

There’s a news post on the home page demonstrating the “more” function … https://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/development/%5B/url:3gkndjfi%5D

It links to a page with only that news item on it … https://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/development/2007/08/12/test-post-for-dihl-page/#more-344%5B/url:3gkndjfi%5D

    Ahh, the wonders of wordpress <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Ryan, you should stick a login form on the page somewhere once you’ve set up the smf bridge.
    [/quote:2u6q2q8c]

I can do that at the moment, but the damned thing kicks you straight to the forum which I don’t want it to do. WordPress will fix that small issue as it presumably will use it’s own login thingy instead of the forums one which I’ve found annoyingly difficult to hack into not redirecting.

Another thing I intend to setup is a function so that when you’re logged in you will be able to tell which news posts you have read and which you haven’t. With the current setup you can’t do that <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt=":(” title=”Sad” />

Also some of the news items are heading towards news features. Better to go with tidbits that link to proper pages, than ram everything on the front page I think.
    [/quote:s1exh6g9]

Yep, there will be a comment at the bottom of the longer posts saying “read more” or something along those lines which will link to a separate page with just that article on it. There will also be a PDF button, which when clicked will dynamically generate a PDF from the post. You can see how this will work by clicking on the title of the current news items. There’s just no examples of it on there coz they’re all old news posts.

At the moment I’m trying to keep the news brief where possible, but that’s tricky and some are definitely on the ‘too long’ side. Sometimes I link to other pages/forum posts, but that’s often too much work/not appropriate. But once this new system is in place the news posts will get a bit longer with just a quick blurb on the main page.

Nice, it looks pretty good. Unfortunately, no columns, but I can see how it would be quite complicated to get them.

Did you edit index.php, or did you set the “home” page to the “latest news” category, then use a category-specific template?
    [/quote:atoapj7h]

Columns should be doable. I was wondering if with the larger font it may not be necessary.

What do people think of that larger font? I was thinking maybe the home page was getting a little cluttered so by enlarging the default font I figured it’d make a little less busy. I’m flexible on that issue though. And with the larger font I didn’t think the columns would be so necessary. I’ve gotten complaints for when I removed the columns and I’ve gotten complaints when I’ve added the columns. Personally I don’t think they’re necessary with the larger font and with titles for each news item.

And the home page is just index.php edited with the loop excluding all categories apart from the Latest News section. The latest news category can be viewed directly on it’s own in the (see the ‘news’ dropdown for the link).

The DIHA committee decided not to postpone/cancel the powerskating so the game times are …

    [list:3b51viiw]
    [*:3b51viiw]10:00pm Aardwolfs B-team vs Dunedin Beasts[/*:m:3b51viiw]
[*:3b51viiw]11:15pm Dunedin Ducks vs Aardwolfs A-team.[/*:m:3b51viiw][/list:u:3b51viiw]

We’re short on players unfortunately so our teams will be quite lean. Only a total of 15 players.

Apparently the level of players is quite low as most of the top Aardwolfs aren’t coming because of the Nationals on the week or so after. So the Beasts and Ducks shouldn’t have too much of a battle on their hands.

Test site is now skinned … http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/development/

There are some errors left for me to correct yet though and there’s a bunch of stuff I’ll need to sort out before this can go live.

ETA for live environment is about three months. Probably less, but I do plan to have this fully operational by mid November.

Am only doing it on a test site and it’s fully backed up so no drama. Bummer to hear your install got fried.
