Actually … my suggestion last year was not to play in the SIHL at all. The reason was that I didn’t see any point, as you are just travelling to play a few random games which you could do without being a part of the league. In the past, there was a big advantage in playing in the league as the events were full on proper tournaments which were held over an entire weekend. The format changed to a one day system a year or so ago which killed that.

So why not just play unofficial games against other teams? Christchurch, Naseby and Gore seem like good options to me. Saves travelling to Queenstown and Alex then.

Sending an email to the SIHL secretary outlining the situation may be a good option. I’m not sure what the DIHA is doing about the matter, but individual team members could quite easily bypass them and complain directly. I doubt the schedule will be changed, but if they know entire team is potentially pulling out because of it they may be more accomodating.

Her email is on the SIHL page I think … https://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/sihl/

So is this the official colour scheme for the team?

Paul is right, you have to play a minimum of 2 games at the level you wish to compete at Nationals in order to qualify.

You should try joining the Beasts or the Ducks. They Beasts play in both the DIHL and the SIHL SNC grade. The Ducks only play in the SIHL SNC grade – albeit they may not have enough players this season due to the above schedule issues.

Skill wise you would slot in quite nicely with the Beasts team. Their manager Mark Hareb will probably be along shortly to read this. I’m not sure how they are off for players at the moment though, they may already have a full roster. The team is mainly made up of university students.

Edit: You played against the Beasts when you came down with the Auckland Uni. team last year.

Below is the email which was sent to me along with the schedule in case it is of interest. I have no idea what “vertical hockey draw” means.

    Hi Everyone

Please find attached vertical hockey draw for 2008 season.  Can secretaries please confirm times with your rinks ? some of you have already done this, & provide times for games to me.

    Thanks[/quote:202zed6g]

True. But it’s still a big social event which was more of an appeal IMO. Trips away to play games against one team aren’t quite the same IMO.

Actually, if my memory serves me correctly, the 2006 tournaments were only over one day too which I don’t like very much. I would much prefer two day events, although that does mount up the costs quickly. Although I prefer the 2007 approach to both one and two day tournaments.

    Nicely worded spiel Kyle <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Has anyone heard an official word on [b:39zxy0dz]WHY[/b:39zxy0dz] they did this? I’m assuming there is a logical reason and it isn’t just because the organiser had a brain fart.

I didn’t like the 2007 system when Phil Pielak-Jones first mooted it, but when you look at it logically, it is hard to justify not running it that way. The only advantage I can think of with the old/returned system, is that you have proper tournaments rather than a few random games every week or so. But the advantages of playing a whole bunch more games for less cost far outweighs the benefits IMO.

I’ve added a link to this topic in the original SIHL schedule article … https://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/sihl-schedule-2008/

Those of you who have access have been PM’d about it.

Who would have thought that a little HTML tag could do so much damage!

I will setup a smaller group of people to have access to this then. It’s a bit dodgy giving randoms this much power!

For the rest of you wondering what the hell is going on here … Mike just hacked into my account and posted the above message himself.
