Well it looks like Kyle isn’t going to be doing his picks of the week this season so I’ll make a vague attempt to fill his gigantic shoes …
[b:gflnqenj]Kings vs Jets[/b:gflnqenj]
The first game of the new season is Kings vs Jets. The Kings roster is completely unknown at this stage, but I’m assuming that their superstar players King and Neil from last season won’t be playing again. There are mutterings that Michael Mitchell may be placed on their roster to beef up their lineup, but who knows. The Jets roster on the other hand is available for all to see and they are looking quite strong. They have one of last seasons leading players Sedgwick back in action along with Beasts stalwarts Soper, Baker and Reymond. They should be a fairly well organised unit with Sharpin doing the team management duties. Goalie Harrison is a bit of an unknown, but the rumour mill is saying that he’s stopped a fair few goals in the schools A-grade competition this season. My pick, 4-2 to the Jets. Mitchell to sink both of the Kings goals if he’s playing, Sedgwick and Reymond to share the goals for the Jets with a few assists from Baker.[b:gflnqenj]Bullfrogs vs Bears[/b:gflnqenj]
Second game up is Bullfrogs vs Bears. The Bullfrogs are handicapped by Chris “munthead” Laing, but have lots of experience with crazy wild eyed Keith Dickson, Alaskan native McMillan, Dunedin womens rep. Anna Craw and two solid and evenly matched goalies in McDonald and Dudley Jr. Wildcard for this team is Dilkes who is a total unknown who hasn’t played hockey for 20 odd years, however his registration form mentioned a prominent Canadian ice hockey association as his previous club back when he was in his very late teens. Other prominent players on the Bullfrogs are Beasts members Hareb and Muenster who has been scoring ridiculous numbers of goals in the Thursday night intermediate sessions. The Bears are back with much the same solid lineup which won them the unofficial “most fun despite having their asses kicked” award last season. However the team is more experienced, much bigger (peewees have doubled in size recently) and their goalie is hot of a total decimation of the Nationals womens grade recently. Their new recruit, ex NZ womens rep. Cat Ronayne is out of action this week after some rough and tumble with a bungy cord at power skating on Monday and superstar forward Kinraid can’t make it this week either. This game is likely to come down to how well the Bears can use their team experience to overcome their bigger, faster oposition on the Bullfrogs. Team play vs brute strength being the challenge at play during this game. My pick, 3-3, Muenster, Hareb and Craw to pick up the goals for the Bullfrogs and Hellyer, Nick Patchett and Laing to pick up the Bears goals. If Dilkes turns out to be as good as some suspect then we may see that score reach 10-3 to the Bullfrogs.[b:gflnqenj]John McG vs Sharks[/b:gflnqenj]
The last game for the evening is John McGlashan vs the Sharks. This is looking impossible to pick as the rosters for these teams still aren’t available. However the John McGlashan team are known to have the wily old Graham Phipps-Black, the nimble footed Drew Handcock and his viciously aggresive older sister Mallory in their lineup. The Sharks have midgets Tom and Regan Wilson, Beasts Kitchen and Honore, Elkin and a bunch of random unnamed players. My pick, well, it’s a bit of lottery with the lack of info., but I’ll take a punt at Drew Handcock and Graham Phipps-Black tonking in three goals a piece to win 6-3 over the Sharks. Two of the Sharks goals deked in by Elkin and a wrist shot from Kitchen.Ryan,

Ryan,
Ryan HellyerMemberProblem solved. Kara has given me a glistening, clean as a whistle, piece of 5mm thick plastic <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” /> I think it’s acrylic rather than polycarbonate, but it’s thick enough I think it’ll take a few knocks before breaking. I’m going to mount it inside a tupper ware like container ready for attaching to the inside of the goal.

[/quote:27o5ixni]Lol, it’s not that high tech <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt="” title=”Tongue” /> It’s a crappy budget still camera which happens to have an okay video function. It’ll be a bit like having a light/small brick strapped to yer head <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” /> The camera should be able to store an entire game on one memory card so no need to rejuice between periods.
Aaron, I’ll probably take you up on that offer of testing it for me <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” /> But please ‘try’ to avoid being hit in the head!
I might not try it this Wednesday and leave it for testing on the Thursday as I’m not 100% sure it’s going to work and I don’t want to be messing round adjusting midway through a real game.
EDIT: I’m chickening out of the ‘in the goal’ idea so have started a new topic in the general chatter forum asking for help to build a crappy protective case for it … http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/forum … opic=959.0. I’m hoping that at least if it’s on Aarons head he’s more likely to move out of the way than the goal is!

[/quote:v67h7mnq]True. Since Aaron didn’t reply I’ve asked Jaimee Wood to double stint if another B-grade goalie doesn’t sign up. Now to get hold of the list of spare goalies <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” />

Just a thought. Oh and thanks for getting me into a team![/quote:1hm9p0pe]Aaron Bryant? He’s actually classed as an A-grade goalie so not technically allowed to play. There are a bunch of B-grade goalies wanting to play too though. Whether they want to play a one-off game I’m not sure. This is all quite last minute and I’m sure the rules could be bent to allow Aaron to play if no B-grade goalies want to fill the spot. Either that or we could just get one of the other goalies to double up. I’ll see what Jane says as I don’t have a list of the spare goalies so I don’t know who’s available.
Aaron, if you’re out there, post back if you want to play and there’s a good chance you’ll have a casual spot on the team.
Ryan,
Ryan HellyerMemberDoes anyone know how to get hold of someone called Adam Beck? He’s rostered on as the Sharks goalie, but I have no way of contacting him to make sure he turns up.

[/quote:r4n02bfl]Your mum gave Callum my email address a while back so I assumed you guys were related. I guess not then!
Three peewees eh. I could have sworn there were four when I counted last, but I only got a B in Math251 so my maths skills aren’t that great. Or maybe it’s that our superstar goalie is so awesome that it feels like we have an extra one of you out there <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt="” title=”Tongue” />
Ryan,
PS: Neil Dudley and Olivia McDonald are now sharing the goal tending duties for the Bullfrogs.
Ryan HellyerMemberAll A-graders who registered for the DIHL, minus those who are now playing B-grade have been emailed about the DIHL cancellation.
Ryan,
Ryan HellyerMemberThanks Tom.

Tom and Regan are on a new un-named team – 1x John McG team is gone now
Jon Kitchen is taking Tom’s place on Bears.Tom, lemme know ASAP if that doesn’t suit.
I still need to know the details on who Regan is and who, what, where, why and how he paid and where his rego form is …

[/quote:2doq7ed2]Is this Regan Hughes you are talking about? In which case he’s either registered directly with the John McG team and he’ll need to get that team to ask for him to be moved, Jane can’t just go yanking players off teams like that [b:2doq7ed2]or[/b:2doq7ed2] he’s too late, as I have a note saying that he wants to play in the A-grade, but there is no form from him and no money.
If it’s another Regan then lemme know ASAP. MSN me via ryanhellyer@hotmail.com if possible.
Ryan,
PS: apologies for any confusion, I have bits of paper flying everywhere and am trying to collate it all ASAP. Mistakes are highly likely <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt="” title=”Tongue” />
Ryan HellyerMemberI’m sorting out rego forms for Jane and an email will be sent out within the next few hours. One of the John McGlashan teams will also be magically transforming into an entirely different team with a different team name – not sure what that will be yet.
