    Interesting/appropriate response.

What violations of the commerce act do you think the rink would be breaching?

That’s two for, one against and I haven’t heard back from the Stephen Christos so I’ll move it back where it came from. Minus some of the later posts as I’m not sure if people intended for those to be public or not (let me know if you want your later posts moved back and I’ll do that too).

Sort of, but as far as whether the issue should be posted here on the site, it’s the DIHA’s decision. I haven’t heard back from Stephen though and probably never will. I don’t think I’ve ever received an email from him before.

Neil bans people from the rink quite often. Including members of the DIHA, though normally its annoying little shits at social skating sessions. I don’t know if this sort of banning would be allowed, but Dunedin Ice Stadium is not a government body, so it’s not subject to some laws – the NZ Bill of Rights Act is one that doesn’t apply for example.

Generally, you’re right, and Neil can ban people for whatever reason he wants basically, so long as he’s not discriminating on the basis of race, age etc etc

However, because the DIHA is a stakeholder in the rink, banning a DIHA member from the ice during DIHA-approved trainings, competitions etc probably doesn’t fly.[/quote:25rqzedq]

I was assuming the legal issue was related to it being anti-competitive. Kinda like Neil banning the owners of the dairy down the road from entering the rink as they’re in competition. Or banning Kyle for organising a roller hockey game.

But now that I think about it more, there are good reasons for the rink banning competitors from entering their premises so I guess that doesn’t apply.

Does anybody think this should be moved back into the General Chatter forum (minus some the posts which were made after I moved it)? I’ve had one request for it be kept out of the public eye and now one for it to be in the public eye. I haven’t heard back from Stephen so until then I’ll leave this up to a majority rules approach unless someone can convince me otherwise.

I’m no legal expert (Chris can fill that role). But I am certain that there is no way Neil can ban you from the rink, or at least not without breaking the law himself. I would put this down to a lapse in judgement by Neil.

You guys are providing a service to the skating public anyway. Getting skates sharpened at the rink is tricky at best as you need to make sure the right person is there to do them for you.

Ticking him off is probably not a good thing for the Dunedin Ice Hockey Association to do though, so I’m assuming your advertisement won’t be allowed back on here. I’ll leave that up to the committee though as it’s not my place to decide such things. I’ve emailed a link to this forum topic to the new DIHA president Stephen Christos. I’ve left the original forum topic you made though.

In the interests of not upsetting Neil, I’ll remove the advertisement on the home page and wait till the DIHA tells me what to do.

EDIT: Done. Now time to actually read the letter – I just skimmed it at first.

    Wow, that’s pretty cool!

Kara and Tom will be particularly envious I imagine.

I find that mail bombing likely recruits with a link to the appropriate forum topic tends to help with recruiting players.

Would you like me to advertise this for you on the home page?

I think Kyle was asking if you needed him to organise referees, not if you needed him to referee himself.

I’ve sent a link to this page to Jackie Christos who is the manager of team. She will be able to provide you with all the information you need.
