I just checked out [url:1c01x0b0]http://www.oswd.org/[/url:1c01x0b0]. Those templates aren’t too bad. Most templates I’ve seen are hideously badly coded but those weren’t too bad from what I saw. I checked two and there were only minor bugs here and there. They also looked a lot easier to modify than some as they’re not complicated with a bunch of nested tables all over the place. Of course I’m sure there are a few bad eggs in there, but 2/2 good ones checked isn’t too shabby.

What kind of programming do you do Mike?

I’ve been trying to learn a bit about PHP lately, but I’m not very good at it. Still trying to get to grips with the absolute basics.

    Hi,
    Yeah I designed this myself.
I have no idea where to get templates from sorry, I’ve never used one before. I designed this in a combination of Adobe Photoshop and PaintshopPro and coded everything by hand.

If you’re interested in designing your own site then I recommend doing some google searching on HTML and CSS. If you get stuck and need help feel free to post here, I’m more than happy to help <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” /> Another source of help is [url:bik3seat]http://www.sitepoint.com/[/url:bik3seat] which has a whole fleet of expert web designers who can help with anything and everything.

Sitepoint also has a market place where you can pay to have websites professionally prepared for you, although that’s probably not what you’re looking for. Cost is NZ$250 for a decent looking design, plus another ~$200 for coding.

Also, if you want something simple to maintain and update, there’s a whole fleet of CMS (content management systems) around which allow you to update your site through a simple online wysiwyg text editor rather than having to edit the code by hand. I’m currently in the process of integrating a custom built one into this site but I keep redesigning it before I get it finished as I always find a better way of doing things! I haven’t used any of the off-the-shelf CMS’s but I do know a little about them. Here’s my rather uneducated opinion of three of them:
[url:bik3seat]http://wordpress.org/[/url:bik3seat] – very popular, not as advanced as Joomla but simpler to use and templating is fairly simple
[url:bik3seat]http://www.joomla.org/[/url:bik3seat] – extremely popular, very commonly used with large corporations, perhaps not as easy to customise as WordPress and has lots of features you’re unlikely to use.
[url:bik3seat]http://www.drupal.org/[/url:bik3seat] – Like Joomla, but simpler I think, with a few less functions.

    Hopefully that’s of some help <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

    Welcome to the forum Mike <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

I thought you were a spambot when I first saw your topic! We’ve had a few posts from spambots posting crap about hard core porn and the like lately!

I [b:37u3eq8v]think[/b:37u3eq8v] the Sunday sessions are starting up in seven days time but I could be wrong. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know ASAP. Oddly noone ever thinks of telling me when practises start or finish! Pretty stupid considering I’m the one posting the practise times!? Grizzle, grizzle, grumble …

I think the beginners practise may be starting around the same time too although I’m not sure about that either.

There’s a bunch of tools for this, a quick Google search churned up these handy bits of info:

    [url:5eu99ggh]http://www.maskmyip.com/[/url:5eu99ggh] program
    [url:5eu99ggh]http://www.experts-exchange.com/Applications/Q_21041194.html[/url:5eu99ggh] opinion
    [url:5eu99ggh]http://www.netconceal.com/[/url:5eu99ggh] program

EDIT: I can’t seem to find a free downloadable program for this (haven’t looked very hard either), both of the programs above are commercial products. If anyone finds a suitable free program please post here <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Wrap the crap out of them with Duct tape so that if they get bashed they’re less likely to break. Even a little cushioning from the duct tape will generally stop them breaking from being bashed around. Also, when they’re taped together they’re stronger because there’s more of them and less likely to break from bending. I took 6 (I think) composite sticks as excess luggage from Canada to NZ via Air Canada/Air New Zealand with no probs at all. Cost ~CAN$140 I think.

You could also bubble wrap inside the duct tape if you were really keen to protect them. Stick bags wont do dick all to protect them so don’t even bother. Duct tape is way better.

I think I was little over zealouse with making it in the first place! We barely have enough posts to keep this one running, let along having multiple forums running side by side. A few topics during the season will probably be enough. The Buy And Sell forum is pretty much in the same boat too, I’m tempted to move it to a sticky here in the general forum and then just have the general forum open automatically, more like a typical message board.

And someone else has made an even better one, try this instead, it’s probably more reliable than mine anyway:

Yeah I did think of that, but ZERO posts in however many months I left it there seemed a little ridiculous. If people start posting about the SIHL in here I’ll create a new forum, but until then I’ll leave it as is.

I’ve also removed the “Southern Ice Hockey League” forum as it has never been used since I added it over a month ago. Any posts about the Southern League should be made here in the general forum now.

Cool! I’ve now downloaded a whole game of the Flames vs Kings.
    Good quality and a smooth and fast download <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Perhaps we should form a Dunedin based NHL hockey video piracy ring <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

No need to use [url:1qc4dwkt]http://bobhar3.freehostia.com/[/url:1qc4dwkt] anymore.
I’ve made a far better uploader here:

    [url:1qc4dwkt]http://www.rookie19.gowoosh.com[/url:1qc4dwkt]

It currently has a data cap of 5 GB with 10 GB/month transfer, although I can increase that up to a data cap of 1000 GB with 100 GB/month transfer if I want – however I’d be impressed if anyone on here could use that much up! The size of each file can be up to 200 MB.

If anyone else has a use for one of these then just let me know and I’ll set one up for you.

me me me me me !!!

I tried p2p downloading hockey games a while back and couldn’t find anything more than crappy highlights you can get elsewhere easier. Whole games would be awesome <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

1 GB per game isn’t that much either. How much data transfer do you have Kyle? I’ve got a 25 GB cap which I’m unlikely to ever reach, so can download a bunch of games for you if you’d like.

Maybe not the video footage as it’s promoting the NHL in the process, but you’re copying music as well. The most that would likely happen is that we’d get told off by our hosting providers or get a nasty email from someone threatening legal action. I’ve spoken to some other website admins who say that it’s quite common to receive threats of legal action if certain material isn’t removed immediately, although that’s as far as it ever goes unless someone refuses to remove that copyrighted material. So I could post them, but there’s a chance that we’d need to remove them. Actually, this isn’t sounding so bad now that I think about it more. What does everyone else reckon?

I’ve made the uploading program now, it’s at:
[url:1palkknl]http://bobhar3.freehostia.com/[/url:1palkknl] – Bob isn’t a real person, that’s just the name I gave to freehostia.com, Bob lives in Beverly Hills, California. Look him up if you’re in the area some time <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

If anyone has a use for the uploader then just PM me and I’ll send you the password.
