It seems that my webhost is indeed doing something weird, but in the mean time you can access it from here … http://beastsx.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/Accounts.htm%5B/url:3jg732bs%5D

It’s the same address as before, except theres an X after beasts.

    Welcome to the forum Blaise.

The new Dunedin based team is definitely your best bet for 2008, I’ll forward the link to this page to the interim team manager so she can contact you with details about the team and what you need to do to get on the team.

BTW, I removed your other post since it was identical to this one.

Also, for some reason the remember option at login is not working, everytime I come back I am logged out.

I didn’t realise that would happen. I’m assuming this is because the regular forum login gives you the option to log in forever whereas the quick login on the home page which I’m assuming you are using doesn’t have that option. You can still access the regular login by going directly to the forum and using the login option at the top of the screen.

Forum button has now been added to the main menu.

Interesting to know that you couldn’t use the site on your PDA. My main reason for ditching it was because I was wary of some people having trouble negotiating it with their mouse. Watching my mum struggle to point her mouse at the send button for Xtra webmail made me realise how much trouble some people have with manipulating a pointer.

I don’t have much time for major changes at the moment, but little thing like this can be corrected. I’ll get round to modifying the forum menu above at some stage too.

I broke it over a week ago – either that or my web host is doing something weird with beasts.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi. I’ll see if I can fix it later on.

Usability testing apparently failed last time as none of you picked up on any of these issues at all! Although that usability testing was restricted to a few of you who checked out the beta site when I posted it here in the web admin forum.  I’ll be changing a few things in the next wee while so stay tuned – maybe over a month away though.

From a usuability stand point, not being able to by pass the main page is bad. It is very hard to find your way to the forum unless you know where to look or the URL as it does not stand out, especially for new users who we would hope will sign up for the forum and ask questions, not having a link in the main nav is limiting.[/quote:jxk7x818]

Hmm. I was hoping that the quick links on the home page would be [b:jxk7x818]more[/b:jxk7x818] obvious than the link in the navigation. But it seems not. I’ve also been getting comments on web design forums about the forum links on the home page looking like advertisements so people were ignoring them.

By taking it away from the main menu you are infact incouraging the oposite as people will more than likely bookmark the forum index instead, the reason people like looking at the index is because it gives more information, like when the last post was made and by who[/quote:jxk7x818]

This is very true and is why I totally removed the forum index. But then that is clashing with the issue above about the index being a convenient way to track who the recent posts. This is all a pain in the butt, but I was aware that such a radical change may not be that popular. Oh well … more changes to do then.

My current thoughts are to make the forum menu on the home page (and some of the other pages) less pronounced and add the forum button back into the main menu as before. But then I need to find somewhere for the links button to go as I’ll have to shift it somewhere else or the menu will be getting too crowded.

I expected to receive complaints about the lack of a dropdown forum menu, but no one has even bothered to comment on that yet!?

Yup, works now after clearing my cache

In Firefox, hitting enter in the address bar on the same page reloads the HTML, but not the CSS. Pressing the reload button in the menu reloads both the HTML and CSS.

Query: rather than removing the forum index so people don’t bypass the main page, thus missing the important latest news, wouldn’t it be better to simply put large “Important news: xxx” boxes at the top of the index?
    [/quote:34sj2i8d]

I’m not sure there’s enough room for that. And it’s not just the important news, I’d rather people actually read ALL of the news, or at least the titles so they can pick and choose what they want to read.

I’ll add a link to the forum index on the home page shortly to save you guys typing it in/bookmarking it.

Reload the page. That is an old version you are looking at from when I was setting it up.

Unless I’ve done something horridly wrong, but I don’t think so.

I could add the BBCode toolbar thingamabob to the Quick Reply too, I just haven’t bothered as it would clutter things up.

The quick reply option in the admin panel is hidden deep within. Seems odd considering how useful it is. I gave up finding it the last time I looked and needed to do some googling to find it this time.

It didn’t work with the old theme anyway though, so was a moot point.

    Fixed.

I’m really liking the new “Quick Reply” feature. It’s making it a lot easier to make quick posts, no pissing around waiting for pages to load and it’s a lot easier to add quotes from different messages.

Woops, that definitely needs fixed then.

Weird how I can go through the thing with a fine tooth comb weeding out bugs, but as soon as it goes live the bugs creep to the surface. Thankfully I have a bunch of free time right now to fix ’em all.

The “Jump to” box at the top of the screen isn’t working on some pages either, so I need to fix that as well.

In case anyone is wondering … the forum design I ranted about a while ago is on the backburner. Skinning these bastards is like, I don’t know, something which is like REALLY hard. It’s like learning how to slapshot or something like that.

    Hey, it’s off-topic….
    [/quote:z0aceig6]

This is true, but Chris is more of a tool than Ryan.

I just realised that none of the documents here on the site are working anymore! Sheesh. A rather large over site that one!

The question now is “am I in trouble for posting something on-topic in the off-topic board?”. Or since it’s off-topic of the off-topic board, does it still count as off-topic since it’s on-topic for one of the other boards? These are important questions in life and need answers.

Titles need some work too. The main forum page comes up with ‘My Community’, and these ones just have the topic name. Maybe needs the club name or something?
    [/quote:hfkxrl9a]

Good point. I’ll change the forum titles to the same format as the rest of the site shortly.

The index was messed up because I had no intention of using it, hence hadn’t bothered to get them to work correctly.

    Nope that doesn’t do it.

It can’t be a caching issue. I’ve never had the forum with only three boards, so there’s no cache with that setup.
    [/quote:230vl720]

That’s weird. I have no idea what could be causing that as the only thing about the index that I’ve changed is the change of theme, but it’s an off the shelf theme apart from the header and footer so it should work fine.

Is anyone else having this problem?
