    Cool <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />
    That would be awesome.
I’ve been trying to get hold of a decent camera for a while now, but haven’t had any luck convincing anyone to part with their multi-thousand dollar camera.

Darned if I know. According to my sources ALL practices are on this week except for the Juniors practice. But this is blatantly incorrect and I’m reporting most of the practices as being canceled this week. But I’m waiting for more info. from the committee who are mainly busy with running the friendship games this week.

    Sounds promising <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Um, now to explain exactly what it is we need.

Well obviously there needs to be a login function for the statisticians to enter their data, an htaccess protected folder would do for that I guess.

Then the stats would need to be calculated as per this type of thing:
    http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/docum … tats06.pdf

But on top of that, it’d be great to be able to click on a player and see their exact stats for each game.

And be able to click on each team and see the exact stats for each game of their season.

Also, some way to rank players and teams automatically based on number of goals, penalty minutes, assists etc. etc.

Preferably set it up to either be easily skinnable by me, or with a nice CSS based design with no extraneous code turfed in there. We could iron any bugs in the display side of things later I guess though, the actually programming is the tricky bit!

There’s a bunch more things we’ll want too, but I can’t think of them right now and I’ve got to go ….

I forgot to add, the stats were generally posted the morning after the last game of the week last season.

The mysterious NZIHF rules which no one seems to have ever seen, apparently require a full mouth guard regardless of whether you’re wearing a full cage/visor or not. Jackie Christos is quite insistent that this is enforced hence it was specifically mentioned in the rule book. I’ve seen players get kicked off the ice in the southern league for this before and it’s definitely enforced at the Nationals (or so I’ve heard through the grapevine).

Perhaps the rule should be changed to the following:

    [quote:1goue50l]Rule 7.2
All players must properly wear shin guards, elbow pads and gloves designed for the purpose of playing ice/inline hockey, except for as exempted by rule 7.5, H.E.C.C. approved helmet and at least a half-visor or half-cage.
Custom made mouth guards shall be worn by all players not protected by a full-face visor or full-face cage.[/quote:1goue50l]

    And
    [quote:1goue50l]7.1 Rules 210, 224, 225, 227, 600, 650 and 651 of the IIHF Rule Book are replaced with
    the following.
    [/quote:1goue50l]
    Should be:

    [quote:1goue50l]7.1 Rules 210, 224, 224F, 225, 227, 600, 650 and 651 of the IIHF Rule Book are replaced with
    the following.
    [/quote:1goue50l]
Note the addition of 224F to the list of IIHF rules which are removed from the DIHA rules. That way any of our players who have tinted visors can’t be pinged for it.

Kyle: The IIHF rule book has been downloadable for as long as I can remember. I’ve had an electronic copy since I first started playing I think.

It’s nice to see that people care about the rule book now <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” /> Kyle and I passed it round a whole fleet of people ages back and we didn’t get any feedback on it whatsoever! (Kyle and I wrote the rule book)

I was looking at getting hold of the software used here from Nick Lynn (who runs the site):
    [url:1s1scxl7]http://www.sncicehockey.com/?opt=schedule[/url:1s1scxl7]

It can be purchased here [url:1s1scxl7]http://www.TheHockeyStop.com[/url:1s1scxl7] but it’s US$100 I think and it’s GPL anyway so no point paying for the damn thing. Plus it apparently has a few bugs in it, like you can’t make corrections afterwards – well you could probably change the database directly but that’s no good for anyone but me who has direct access to it, plus it’s a pain the ass. Nick hasn’t sent me the software yet.

In principle we should be able to create something ourselves but I’m definitely not knowledgeable enough for that. The computer tech guy at the university chemistry department offered to make one, but he’s given up as he got bored of it.

Do you reckon you could make something similar Mike? There’d be quite a bit of database work to make it work. I suspect if you made it you could probably make a few bucks off it too as all the software for this purpose is either crap, or mega expensive. That one above is the cheapest I’ve seen so far but it certainly isn’t perfect. It requires safe mode to be off – apparently this is a bad thing.

Cool, well in that case I’ll put forward a motion at the next meeting to modify that rule accordingly.

By the way, something is defined as “clear” if it doesn’t disperse light which passes through it. The definition of “transparent” is a little less clear cut, some consider it to mean essentially the same thing as “clear”, but some consider it to mean that [b:k4ggg1r8]all[/b:k4ggg1r8] light passes through it which would make your visor legal. I’d hope that no referee would pull you up on a rule like this which has some ambiguity. If you do get pulled up on it then I suggest asking them to define “transparent” and “clear” and I’d guess 99% of them couldn’t do it.

In regards to refs enforcing rules, I’d rather not have the rules than have them not be enforced. The rules become pointless if the refs don’t enforce which is the case with equipment a lot of the time. Of course that doesn’t work if the rules are blatantly incorrect in the first place which is the case here!

    Ryan,

PS: I think it was me that wrote that rule originally, so my bad!

I have some new contacts from the DIHL B grade. Do you want these now, or do you want to wait until I can add new A grade people as well.

What’s with Mark forgetting about everyone?

And shame on you for doubting our team Kyle! We are going to go kick some ass! Although we are off to a rocky start as I don’t have contact details for most of our team so we can’t sort out our battle plan yet. Perhaps we should be given a 5 point advantage to compensate for our unintended lack of planning <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt=":P” title=”Tongue” />
