Perhaps the comments should be removed? Opinions?

Okay, just received an email from Emma Newell who is was actually the designer of the site.

She seems quite pissed about the comments made … unsurprisingly.

If you can do better, then do, don’t bitch about other peoples work. At least not in public.

Um, perhaps butchering someone’s hard work in public like this is not a good idea guys.

My first attempts at designing this site were appalling and the NZIHF site is a gazillion times better, you guys would have had a field day with ripping in to it. I wouldn’t have been particularly happy to find people saying such scathing comments about my work though, in fact I would have been quite offended by it. I’m assuming the NZIHF haven’t paid for this, the designer has presumably spent a lot of their own free time working on it. Any one of his could have volunteered to redesign their site, but didn’t …

And the designer was actually Emma Newell apparently, I received an email from her this morning.

Well at least it looks nice. Whoever this Marty person is has definitely done a good job on improving on the old one IMO.

    I was looking forward to an RSS feed though <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt=":(” title=”Sad” />

I had to make a Dreamweaver template for a client recently and they butchered my freakin’ design as soon as they started putting their crappy code into it  <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry.gif" alt=":(” title=”>:(” class=”bbcode_smiley” />” title=”Angry” />
Kyle is right however, Dreamweaver is quite suitable for web design as long as you don’t go near the design view. It has some funky auto code completion tools which work quite nicely. But I’m happy using any old crappy code highlighting text editor, the rest of the junk in Dreamweaver is just wasted space/resources IMO.

Chris, if you think you can do better, perhaps you should offer to design them a new Dreamweaver template. They’re quite easy to make, I found a couple of tutorials which teach you how to make one in a matter of minutes – assuming you’ve already coded up the design first.

Can you guys let me know if you are still experiencing the login bugs please. I’ve updated WordPress and am hoping that will have ironed out whatever bizarre bug was causing the original problem.

I recall the later tournaments featuring trials for teams in the past.

People will always winge. Apparently the concept of tough competition is a foreign concept to some people.

Interesting to see you’ve got Serge back, I didn’t realise he was still in Dunedin.

Eek, I feel his pain! Literally!

My Orthopedic surgeon recommended yesterday that I have surgery to repair my shoulder which was dislocated when someone checked me into the boards at the Sunday social game a year or so ago. My shoulder is now munted <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt=":(” title=”Sad” />

For those of you that witnessed the drama that ended the Bulls V’s Johnnies game… Mike has dislocated and fractured his ankle and will be going into surgery tomorrow to have it pinned and plated.

Pretty elaborate way of getting out of painting the house this weekend!

Somebody called Marty Newell from Queenstown is doing the redesign apparently.

Hopefully they’ll have new information about the 2008 NZIHL when it relaunches.

Hopefully Seen in Dunedin don’t mind me borrowing their image.

I’d like to add a special “Thunder” page here to the DIHA site, but I don’t have enough information for that to be viable just yet.

I’m happy to code something for a “Thunder” specific site and stick into a CMS. But I don’t have the time to design it.

If someone can supply a total mockup of exactly what it needs to look like and exactly what it should be able to do, I could patch something together in an evening. I wouldn’t suggest anything too exotic feature wise, it’s just a team site, so a simple set of pages, including player profile pages would be best IMO.

I’d rather not host it myself as I’m taking on a few too many freebie sites at the moment and my host will pack a wobbly if I start using too much resources.
Chris, is there any chance you could handle the traffic for it? I doubt it would get a huge amount and I’m sure no one would mind you getting a link in the footer to your blog in return.

Someone would need to pay for a domain name too. The cost for a .co.nz domain name is ~$30 and a .com is around $15. See http://godaddy.com/ for more info on domain names.

PS: In case anyone doesn’t know what a CMS is … CMS stands for Content Management System. They allow users to log in and edit the pages directly via a (supposedly) idiot proof admin panel. So you guys could edit it yourself without relying on me or anyone else to do the editing for you even if you don’t know anything about web design.

Dunedin Green/Thunder are looking pretty solid

They look like tough competition for the other teams.
