KyleMember
Yeah, he’s her cousin.
KyleMemberBean pole? Whatever short stuff.
Yeah that was my conclusion about the Beasts after the game. Probably not enough skating speed I thought. They’ll get ripped to shreds in the weekend if they can’t sort that out better with better cover on the defense and maybe a bit more commitment in shutting players down.
KyleMemberIs Hodge not playing?
Just as a note Stefan, everyone who plays should be DIHA registered, or registered for some other club. I don’t think Peter Lamb is as he hasn’t DIHL registered yet, dunno about “Stewie” and Blake so you’d just want to check with them and make sure that they cough up another $50.
Nice team I’ve found myself on. I’ll try not to hold you all back <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif" alt="” title=”Wink” />
KyleMemberYeah, Joyce sent out an email ages ago asking for team entries.
I wasn’t here last year. But there was no way Joyce or Jackie were going to be able to do that, and no one else has picked the ball up and run with it.
It’s 8 teams, but those people who want to play should be able to slot in with the juniors and whatnot. There’s certainly no flood of people that I know of trying to get into teams.
KyleMemberI’m going to try and make it to Tuesday’s meeting, but it’s kinda squeezed between dinner, dog, and my quiz team, so I thought I’d put some stuff here as suggestions.
The first is just a general reminder for all refs (indeed, perhaps we should give all refs a copy of the local rulebook to add to the IIHF one) that there are no slap shots (above the knee) allowed in the B grade DIHL. That’s the primary difference between the grades (the other ones relate to minor ways in equipment, basically that elbow pads and shin pads and gloves don’t need to be ice hockey gear, they can be skating gear or something).
The other thing is that I’d like some clarity on intentional and accidental offsides. Basically when we should call it intentional and call it back to the low face-off spots of the offending team.
The last thing is that the DIHA rulebook was put through late last year. It’s kinda being worn in at the moment, and a couple of things have come to light which may need tweaking. But it’d be good for referees to be involved in that process, and to also make any suggestions that they want.
KyleMemberDammit. I had a busy weekend with my son’s birthday and family down, so I completely got to call my picks. For the first time in ages!
Anyway, I probably would have picked 6-2 maybe for the Beasts over the Bears, so that was close (6-3 in the end?), and 4-3 to Johnnies over Kings (finished up 4-1 to Kings, so I would have got that wrong).
Kings vs Johnnies was a good game, and Kings have stepped up this year. A little bit rough in points, but not too bad. Johnnies will probably be a bit disappointed both that the they let Kings get a couple of late goals, and that they didn’t get another one or two – they had chances, but Kings defense shut them down well in their own zone and kept a lot of chances away from the goalie. Johnnies defense looked better with regular goalie Leask between the pipes, but they didn’t seem to have their positions on the rink quite sorted, often ending up 5 on one side of the ice, and lacked a bit of straight out skating pace on attack.
I got to play in the bears vs Beasts game to help out the bears, who were going to get a bit of a hammering otherwise. Picked up a goal (and I just want to point out to Jack, who I zoomed past with the puck, your effort was so a slap shot) and hit the upright with another shot. Hellyer picked up a solo effort coast-to-coast as well.
Bears worked hard and got a really good goal when the Patchett kids worked it amongst themselves, and Larry Martin finished off with his first ever hockey goal, bouncing himself and the puck off players. Beasts were fairly comfortable most of the game, and despite some good saves from Bears goalie, took way more shots and spread them around a few players, finishing it up fairly comfortably, but it was a good game and played in a pretty good feeling.
And was that Mr Laing boarding me in the first period? You ain’t got the size for it buddy!
KyleMemberThe Aardwolfs were possibly not coming, but they’ve just had a couple of players drop out. All three chch teams are confirmed as of yesterday.
The first answer is ‘no’, you can’t enter any more teams, the closing date for entering was ages ago, and people needed to get off their butts and do it then. Joyce put the draw together over the weekend after a very stressful couple of weeks and much thanks to her for doing it.
However once teams confirm how short they are (one or two Christchurch teams are short, and the juniors obviously will be) people can be added to those teams. What would be good is if someone like you Graham could round up half a dozen or maybe up to 10 ‘casuals’ who can be put into teams. I’d be loath at present to suggest that Joyce or Jackie should do any more work. I have A grade contact details from last year that I could send you if you wanted to volunteer.
The Dunedin teams are Beasts, and their roster is listed in the B grade DIHL roster, Phantoms – I don’t have a complete list, Stefan can you post it?, and juniors.
Anyone else isn’t in a team, and could be hit up to sign up for a short team.
KyleMemberThe other thing is to give kids a straight stick the first time they play, and see which way they hold it – isn’t there a rule about putting it down on the ice, tell them to pick it up, and the way they pick it up shows which side they should play?
I can’t imagine I’d be as brave as you Graham and try switching. There’s enough shortcomings in my game without creating more <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” />
And, Canadians drive on the right side of the road, the steering wheel is on the left side.

Ryan,[/quote:2r16btae]
My website, yahoo address etc. If I change those, am I going to break it, or does it only apply when your setting up a new login?

The registration process will still crash if anyone enters a website, but I’ve added a comment to the registration page saying not to enter anything and an explanation of why.[/quote:24mfzgnz]I now have the inevitable question – can I change these things in my current character, or if I touch them am I going to break stuff?
KyleMemberRyan, I just deleted about 10 posts from Ereno, and one from Lord. All linking to some hardcore sex video. And one from Tom who posted saying ‘who are you’.
I also deleted the users.
Is it possible to add it so that if you delete a user you either do, or have the option of, deleting all their posts? Currently if you delete them their posts remain under ‘guest’. It’d be nice to just be able to delete them and that deleted every post they’d made.
KyleMemberDuh, I knew that too. Should have checked.
KyleMemberFirst game NZ beat Israel 10-0. Megan got an assist, and a boarding and a tripping call in the first period. Two assists in the second, and a goal and an assist in the 3rd. Zanzee picked up an assist in the last period. Megan was +3, Zanzee +5 (I really don’t understand those figures, how Megan only finished on +3 when she got 5 points herself, and the other team scored no goals. Surely she’d be at least +5?)
Second game NZ lost 4-3 to croatia. Unfortunately the opposition got four goals in the 1st period, and unable to drag it back. Zanzee called for interference in the first period. Megan clocked a goal in the second.
They’re playing Turkey tomorrow night our time.
KyleMemberRyan will note that that’s easy, but the best way to do it would be to wrap your beasts site around the database, and send queries to the live database. You could have different CSS and header and footer files so that it would look quite different.
If you import something by nature it’s static, and you’re replicating information as well. There being one source of information is a good principle to follow.
You might be best to talk to Ryan about having the dunedinicehockey host the beasts website. I know he created a function whereby people can update web pages using a fairly simple editing system. That way there wouldn’t be any problem with external database access and having to open up access to the database from external web sites.
KyleMemberI think it looks good.
In the schedule. It’d make sense to me to show the next X games – say 8 games, on this page. There should be a ‘more’ link which links to the complete schedule. Also a ‘previous’ button at the top which links to the complete schedule, but to an anchor at the top. The same with the six tables below – ‘complete list’ is needed as a link. In those complete lists, it’d be good to have ‘sort’ buttons at each column – so you can sort by name, team, points etc.
Also in the schedule, there should be a game number. Michael’s going to put a universal game number into the database, which will keep increasing as we add stats, but there should be a game number from 1 – X for each league which is in the schedule. So Sunday’s game Beasts vs Bears is game 3 in the DIHL B grade Autumn 2007. That number should link to a ‘game stats’ page, with the stats for that game. Michael, is it possible to get the system to put these in when the league is set up?
What about SHG and PPG? It might be possible, if times are put in for goals, to have the system pick these up automatically? That would also open up powerplay and short-handed percentages for games/teams, again, which would be good (this would require, across multiple games, penalties to list the non-offending team, I can’t remember if it does this Michael, but I guess you can get it from the game table).
