I think I said I’d be down at the rink last night to collect DIHL registrations. Unfortunately my dog got hit by a car so life overtook me a little bit. I’ll be down there next Tuesday.

I also said I’d be down there on Saturday, but as it turns out there doesn’t seem to be any peewee game this Saturday, so I don’t think I’ll be down then either.

Any registrations can be given to Joyce and Jackie at any time however.

Remember that high schools starts in 15 days on Wednesday nights as well.

No it’s not possible to arrange it for tonight, the office is closed now.

Ryan and I will get our ducks in line and no doubt he’ll let you know when we have it booked!

    Sorry about that everyone.

Well it’s not booked. Last week I booked a one-off session, if he was expecting a permanent booking we’ve had a miscommunication.

No it’s not on tonight. I’m not sure when Ryan is going to organise another one.

I think I used rule 569 for that one, but I remember it not being incredibly clear.

In answer to Stefan, no I wouldn’t imagine anything further is going to happen in relation to it. There was a fight in the final of the DIHL last year and nothing further was done. The rulebook is going to be revised in a number of areas soon, and this will be one more thing that will be brought up.

In answer to Ryan, there’s no direct rule of ‘inciting to fight’ or something. Rule 550 covers abuse of official and unsportsmanlike conduct. That includes offensive language, ‘inciting an opponent into incurring a penalty’, racial remark or ethnic slur, touching or spitting at officials (67 Canty Phantoms in the last period was waving his stick at Ryan in a threatening way and Michael was in between and the guy gave Mike a gentle thump in the back with his shaft, Michael didn’t feel it but that would have been a match penalty). The allowed penalties are fairly broad, from bench or ordinary minor, to misconducts and match penalties.

The player who started fisticuffs should be given a match penalty. If it’s a mutual thing, then both should. You can still give match penalties after the match has finished, as they’re automatically suspended for another game. That doesn’t come into play here however, as there’s no further match.

And I agree with Michael about the refereeing. Everyone knew the game was going to go off the boil well before we got on the ice. Any time the referee tells the captains that they’re going to allow some contact and let the game flow, you know you’re heading for a rough game, particularly when the two teams have had a ‘chat’ beforehand in the changing rooms. The only way for the referee to get the game back at stage is to call all the penalties that happen, so the players know they’re skating on thin ice. With all respect to Vinnie, who’s a nice guy, he refereed the earlier game between the two teams and there was a bunch of stuff that wasn’t called in that one either and it got close to losing it too. He let a lot of stuff go in this one too, and with only one referee, he’s the ultimate authority.

And he so got that icing call wrong, Michael was right.

Just deleted about 14 posts by Zabalit, and deleted the user as well.

    Was fun too, honest.

One of these days I’ll follow one of the links to see if they actually lead to pornography, or if it’s just virus sucking.

I’m not sure what fight you were watching. Who gave who a smacking?

But obviously I’ll take your thoughts on my balls into account. Because what we need when people get into scraps on the ice rink is people on the sideline cheering it on. That makes it real easy to promote the sport to kids, parents, high schools, etc. The baying for blood, parents love their kids getting involved in that.

There was no call on the first hit from behind and at the end of the game, nothing could be done by the ref, so I think something had to be done. What would have happened if Ryan didn’t get up from that hit from behind and had a broken neck?[/quote:61n6jbuu]

The end of the game doesn’t prevent the referee doing anything about actions. Players can get in trouble with referees before, during, and after games. There’s a problem with this competition, because by my understanding, penalties and disciplinary hearings that take place as a result of Easton Cup, don’t have any impacts upon any other competitions. So because it was the last game, the referees would be limited in what they could do. This is a matter that I’ll be looking to push along, as it’s insane that we run games where players could feel that they can ‘get off free’ with things because it’s the last game.

Another issue is the question of people from outside our region coming in and being allowed to play when they’re not allowed to play at home. That’ll be coming up as well I suspect.

I suspect if Ryan had broken his neck from being hit from behind, well that would have put a real downer on the day for starters. But fighting doesn’t prevent people from hitting their opponents from behind, so I’m not sure what your argument is. I suspect the other guy enjoyed the scrap and probably got what he wanted, so it’s just reinforced his bad behaviour.

Secondly while I don’t condone Ryans action as it took the gloss off our win, that goon from chch, was looking for fight and wasn’t going to stop until he got one.

I think we should be praising Ryan for his restraint, it took the guy three days to get Ryan to go.

I think fighting has a place in hockey, if tensions spill over in the game and aggression of hot head players can be released in a 30 second fight, instead of dangerous checks and swinging sticks throughout a game that is a good thing.[/quote:61n6jbuu]

Seems to me there’s a bit of a contradiction between “don’t condone” on one side and “praising for his restraint” and “fighting has a place in hockey” on the other.

And, if we can just quote what I heard coming from our bench in the middle of the third period, which I believe was along the lines of “I’m going to smash you up”. The fight couldn’t have been better arranged if notes had been passed to meet in the playground at lunch time.

The IIHF, NZIHF, DIHA all concur that fighting has no place in hockey. The questions are just about how to deal with it. People who make it part of their game should take up boxing.

Well the email wasn’t sent out for the world to see, it was sent to several people to in the DIHA about two issues. The first issue related to the scope of our rules relating to the Easton Cup. I sent it to you Stefan because you’ve got some involvement in the running of the SNC team this weekend, so that related to the second issue to do with me.

My views on fighting at ice hockey games aren’t exactly secret, so they apply for yesterday’s incident the same as any other. I thought the crap that the Christchurch team were putting about before the game was primary school playground stuff and should have been viewed as such. Takes two people to make a fight though.

Yeah, they match in one game, but the other game doesn’t appear on the schedule.

It’d just be nice for those of that are (hopefully) playing SIHL to have a schedule for the year so we know when we are playing. Some of us have more to rearrange than our hangovers when we play hockey. I (and you) both thought we had that, but clearly there’s been more games put in!

Ryan. The SNC/midgets document that Joyce sent out tonight and which you’ve posted, doesn’t match the SIHL schedule on the web site. I know this isn’t your fault, but presumably the year schedule is out of date, someone needs to fix it!

Also the calendar of events needs updating – it needs March taken off it.
