Nooo! Kyle for… doing something else, involving a lot less work!
KyleMemberWeek 2 of A grade.
Alright, the teams should be working the kinks out and starting to learn each other’s names now. The hockey should settle down and pick up a little hopefully as well.
Johnnies OB vs Bullfrogs. Johnnies got a right pasting last week from a unrepentant Phantoms team showing no mercy. They’re sending in a better lineup this week however, with Matt Weir on board, and we’ve brought in Steve Jackson to help them out. Jackson and Bode should be showing the team good leadership and expect them to play better tonight. Bullfrogs played well to get a good win last week, but were missing a couple of good players. If Bulling and Phipps-Black (the younger) turn up tonight, they’ll be a strong team and look for them to skate fast and take it to Johnnies. My pick: Bullfrogs, 5-1.
Sharks vs Phantoms. This will be an interesting game. Phantoms clocked up some major points last week, but this week should give a better indication of the relative strengths of both teams. Sharks are as strong as Phantoms on paper, having added Wilson and Smith to their lineup. If they can get enough shots on goalie Metzger, who hasn’t played much hockey recently that I know of, they’ll be in with a good shot, as long as their defense can shut down the Phantom goal-scorers, which is easier said than done. My pick. I think it’ll be close until the last couple of minutes, finishing 4-2 to Phantoms.

Ooh, close game. It finished up 3-3, with both teams putting on some big offence in the final minutes to try and get the gamewinner with no luck. Johnies will be regretting letting Beasts get a goal in the first period where goalkeeper Leask came out to play the puck and dumped it right in the high slot for Li to score. Bit of niggle in the game still, couple of late penalties.
"Kyle":19nwne5p wrote:Bears vs Kings. My pick – 6-2 to Kings.[/quote:19nwne5p]5-0 to Kings again. Hellyer at home stick in bed, so I played for Bears to help them out. Kings was too strong all over the ice, making some good shots and spreading the goals around. Bears only able to put on five shots, really struggling to get it into the zone and take decent shots on net. Some silliness at the end from Kings where goalie and a player swapped sticks. Arrogance isn’t nice boys, remember to show respect for the other team. No goal for King on the scoresheet, but I thought he got one.

Shouldn’t they practice as a team therefore?[/quote:2pdbd698]AFAIK they didn’t have enough people attending to justify the practice. Neither was the SNC practice. Practices cost $210/hour, so 21 players at $10 each are needed. Aren’t the women combining with the SNC/Beasts practice? – that’s what Mark was suggesting at work today.[/quote:2pdbd698]
They don’t need to cover the $210. The DIHL profit is paying for the coaching for these practices – womens, prems, and snc. They just need to cover the ice time.
But they’ve never tried to get the numbers to come to the SNC practice. It’s never been advertised to appropriate DIHL players. There’s a heap of high school kids who could come along to it. It seems like we jump to cancel things rather than make them work. Jenel said that the womens practice is getting close to 15 people.
"Ryan":2pdbd698 wrote:"Kyle":2pdbd698 wrote:My question is, what’s happening with the time that was contracted to Jenel. That SNC practice is time that we agreed to provide work for her. Something else will have to be thrown in to make up the time for her.[/quote:2pdbd698]I’m not sure she’s been paid for the correct amount of time yet at all. At any rate, it’s cheaper for the club to combine the practices, that way they’re making more money out of it. Plus there’s two good coaches for the womens practices (James as well) so they’ll easily be able to handle the extra players attending. The club also said they’d aim to get at least 20 hours work for her per week for her, but there’s been [b:2pdbd698]no[/b:2pdbd698] attempt to reach this. My attempt to generate some more hours was stomped on by Joyce and Jackie dead in it’s tracks <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="” title=”Sad” /> <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="” title=”Sad” /> <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="” title=”Sad” />
These practices are in a disarray, whoever is involved needs a kick in the ass and told to sort their shit out beforehand. The treatment of the Beasts recently was absurd.
Ryan,[/quote:2pdbd698]
It’s cheaper in terms of ice time, but the club now is going to have to pay Jenel for the hours she’s not coaching up to the amount she was guaranteed. If they cancel the SNC practice, and she’s only doing one of the two hours of power-skating, that’s two hours a week of coaching that she’s not doing. Unless they’ve screwed her on the contract then the’ll just have to pay her out for these. Makes a lot more sense to have someone fix them rather than just cancel them.
Anyway, I’m still pissy. There’s now no alternative for hockey coaching other than the Thursday night. If you’re not available on Thursday, you can’t get hockey coaching.

KyleMemberPractice times are changing again. Or, disappearing.
Monday SNC is being folded into Thursday womens, which is now, intermediate. And I’m grumpy, because I can’t go on Thursdays, so that’s no good at all. The womens team practice seems to be disappearing, which doesn’t make sense to me, as aren’t they playing in the SIHL women’s grade? Shouldn’t they practice as a team therefore?
Monday 9pm is now becoming power skating.
My question is, what’s happening with the time that was contracted to Jenel. That SNC practice is time that we agreed to provide work for her. Something else will have to be thrown in to make up the time for her.
KyleMemberThat last video didn’t rank for me sorry Stefan. The goalie didn’t get his pad down, should have stopped that one. I still have yet to see anything that tops the video that Tom posted of his assist, though the falling down shot wasn’t bad.
I think the two of you should take it outside. I’ve got money on Tom. All the Prems tell me Stefan’s a big inline wuss. Tom’s a John McGlashan boy. They’re nuggety up on the hill.
KyleMemberI think if there was to be any advertising on the site, and I’m not sure there should be, that it should go towards paying for the site first.
KyleMemberWell, we’ve never run the draft pool, so no, Stefan didn’t pick up his people from there. The Phantoms team has changed managers, and most of their players. From their team last year, only Stefan, Darcy, and Zanzee are still Phantoms. Nick was a Phantom last year, but to be honest, I think he only played 3 games, so Mark Dudley was as much a Phantom as him. There’s people who were phantoms last year who haven’t been invited to play this year, which they surely should have been if it’s the same team.
I’ve treated it as a new team. The original team that was submitted to me had one player who didn’t want to play in the dihl, and one player who was signed up for another team. I replaced them with weaker players, and swapped over the goalie. That brought the grade down to an appropriate level. They have the players that they have because those are the ones that they picked. If other people want to pick certain players, they need to organise their own teams otherwise they’ll get whatever strange lineups I come up with <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” />
The Phantoms’ final grade was 7.45 I think. That’s well below the requirement on the event notice. I worked with Stefan to bump it right down to try and keep balance with the Sharks and Bullfrogs.
I don’t think people should take too much notice of Tuesday’s game. Johnnies OB entered a team with an average grade well below 7. They then lost 3 of their top five players for the first game, and replaced them with B graders. You can’t turn up to an A grade competition where all the teams are graded in the 7s, and play a team whose average grading probably would have ended up in the 5s. That’s too big a gap, and it showed exactly why the grading system works – if you looked at the grading numbers on the rosters before the game, you could predict it was going to be a blowout, even if you didn’t know any of the players.
This Tuesday should be a better matchup. They’re playing the sharks, who have picked up Garett and Sam on their original roster.
KyleMember"Ryan":1cw6fhbx wrote:Another error in the rules I’ve discovered:[quote:1cw6fhbx]11.3 Casual players must fall within the Grade Range outlined on the Event Notice.[/quote:1cw6fhbx]
needs to be changed to:
[quote:1cw6fhbx]11.3 Casual players must not cause the average grade for the team to increase above the average grade outlined on the Event Notice.[/quote:1cw6fhbx]
otherwise there will be situations where teams can sign up for a league with a totally under graded team and then stack themselves up by recruiting ridiculously good casual players.[/quote:1cw6fhbx]Umm, that’s a problem. Because if casual players no longer need to fall in the grade range outlined on the event notice, then I don’t think there’s anything preventing a highly graded player playing in the B league as a casual player.
"Ryan":1cw6fhbx wrote:Not a rule change per se but vagule on the same topic:
[quote:1cw6fhbx]9.2 The event notice of each league may or may not allow the entry of entire teams. If this is the case, several rules below do not apply.[/quote:1cw6fhbx]
I think it would be prudent to include this on every event notice. The last two DIHL seasons have been missing this.[/quote:1cw6fhbx]What do you mean? Include the rule on the event notice?
"Ryan":1cw6fhbx wrote:We also need to change some of the references to ‘league’ as they don’t apply to competitions such as the Easton Cup. One of the original drafts I prepared of the rule book originally took this into account, but was scrapped in favour of focusing on the DIHL.Ryan,
PS: I’ve fully removed the 9.11 comment from the original post now.[/quote:1cw6fhbx]
A league is any competition involving one or more games, according to 1.5. That covers the Easton Cup.
KyleMemberI’d be curious to know if any of the Ice Blacks were there. A couple of people I talked to were wondering whether any would come or if it would be the same team that they played a couple of weeks ago.
Either way, 3-0 to Dunedin is a strong result, nice job prem team.
KyleMemberI can’t help with the Rangers. I left the dunedin-gore game at the end of the 2nd period to go pick up my son.
Dunedin was up 11-1. 8 Unanswered goals in the 2nd period, they were really starting to fire.
KyleMemberI would agree with you that the Western Conference is stronger than the Eastern conference. I wonder if there’s any stats out there on which team wins more – a western team or an eastern team, when games are cross-conference?
However my impression is that it’s been that way for a number of years now – at least since I started following hockey, which was 2002-2003. If that’s correct, then the winners of the cup don’t necessarily follow. During that time, the cup winners have all been Eastern conference teams (2001 – 2 Detroit won it, and certainly before this time Western teams dominate for a number of years).
So while the conference overall might be stronger in the West, I still think it’s pretty reasonable to pick an Eastern team. Obviously this is all just speculation for a few more weeks, as there won’t be any cross-conference games until the cup games.
KyleMemberYou’re so hip hop Aaron.
KyleMemberIt’s like dueling youtube videos. I think Tom has walked all over you unless you’ve got something to counter that last one sorry Stefan.
KyleMemberHeh. Gotta love that ask a question, say what you think the answer is, and then tell someone who says the other answer that they’re wrong <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif" alt="” title=”Wink” /> Perhaps some sort of cunning voting system might be in order?
