A Grade tonight. Ooh, quick, get some picks together.
Tonight will see the last game of the first round-robin. Teams will be looking for a win to cement their positions and get ahead. Last week was close – any of the four teams could have won their games.
First up, Johnnies take on the Sharks. Johnnies have been having all sorts of problems so far, they got their first win last week over a very short Bullfrogs, but now they’re hung out without a goalie (rugby injury!), and no signs of being able to find a replacement. If they can’t fix that the Sharks will eat them up. Sharks will be looking for Wilson to be back in the lineup tonight, if he’s there, they should beat Johnnies quite convincingly. My pick: I’m picking Johnnies will end up with someone reasonable between the posts, but still go down. First win for Sharks, 3-2.
Phantoms vs Bullfrogs. Phantoms have been looking pretty good so far this DIHL, and under normal circumstances, I’d have to make the pick for them to win. Bullfrogs have played short, and will be short again tonight, and they’ll be missing Kibbelwhite’s defence with him not making the trip in from Roxburgh. However, Bullfrogs and hoping to pick up a late import to the team – a chap called Jacques, who’s just arrived in NZ from South Africa, via Ireland. Nothing’s concrete at this stage, but if he turns up at 9pm tonight, I’m picking Bullfrogs to pull a draw out. My pick 2-2.

I’d like to point out that while you have a right to free speech, this discussion forum is run by a private individual for an incorporated society. Neither of those two things are at all required to protect your free speech. Indeed there’s a whole heap of things in ice hockey which prevent free speech, starting with the rule about what you can say on the ice and who can say it.
And Ryan’ll stomp over anyone’s free speech on here as much as he wants. It’s his forum, if you want free speech you’ll need to go start your own one.
KyleMemberUmm. The JM goalie was dropping the stick completely to the ice in front of him whenever a show was coming in, and trying to stop it with his blocker by catching it from what I could see (I was goal judging, so I was on the wrong side to see exactly what he was doing).
Anyway, the kings player was in front at the top of the crease and the puck was off in the corner and he swept the stick way out to the opposite corner with his stick. I’m not sure if he sent it that far deliberately, or just swung at it to move it away and it just went that far.
KyleMemberI don’t think so.
I think it’s the midgets that have peewees playing for them, not midgets playing for juniors.
KyleMemberBut the referee forum isn’t an appropriate place for it, so if you split it and put it into the public forum, then the content isn’t appropriate.
The content isn’t appropriate for the referee forum either. If we expect players to show respect to referees, then referees can’t go around slagging off players and managers randomly in the forum. Respect goes both ways. If people want to have a sensible discussion about “here’s a problem I have as a referee with a player and what they do” then the referee forum is ideal for that.
This is a referee commenting as a player in the referee forum about a team manager, and not doing it in the best way.
KyleMemberI edited out this post from jack in the referee forum:
Ian is a bloody stirer ne way…. made up a bunch of shit about me after the kings game last season… not that i care, but he doens’t really set a very good example for the rest of the team.
Replaced it with a message to stay on topic and not slag off players.
KyleMemberAlright. The whole making picks for Sunday night games doesn’t work for me, but I can assure you that I would have picked both these games the way they worked out.
First up, Kings vs John McGlashan. Both teams decided to try and creative method of not brining their regular goalies. Kings fielded Bley in goal, though he missed the first bit of the game due to thinking he was playing at 8pm, Johnnies fielded Oli Wilson. Oli was really creative, adopting a “drop the stick every time someone shoots at me” method. Kings manager Keilor retaliated by knocking the stick away into the corner, a goalie interference call if ever I saw one! Anyway, the game went well, I thought Kings might struggle a bit with Neil, King, and Williams all away, but they still got up with three 3rd period goals to take it 5-2. Paired goals for Ben Speirs and Jamie Teasdale, along with a good game by Bley to keep out over 90% of shots and see his team through. That game and the following one will see Johnnies unable to make the final this league, they’ll be looking ahead to playing Bears, while Kings will be lining up the Beasts for the final two games.
Bears vs Beasts. Bears were woefully short for this game, with almost all their peewee players still coming back from Queenstown after knocking over the local peewee team (go peewees!). Stevenson and Matthews signed up to play to help them out. Bears up early off a coast-to-coast goal, but Beasts back in it with the next three. Goals were split in the last game – a point shot where Larry Martin somehow missed out on an assist for passing it back, but Cecil-Cockwell gets it for the faceoff, and Sedgwick wraps up a 4-2 win for Beasts. A good game overall, Wood stopped 17 of 21 shots after playing two games earlier for the peewees. She’s a rising star that one.
Next week is the last week of the round-robin, and it should be a repeat the week after in the finals. Johnnies play Bears, in a repeat of a drawn match first time around, and Kings take on Beasts, Kings took it out well last time, Beasts will be looking to be better this time.

[/quote:2g9k7j6e]Oooh. Slapped down by Jason.
KyleMemberOK, I can kinda see how that would work. Cheers Mark.
I’m going to have to give Ian Keillor ribbing about him knocking away the Johnnies goalie stick into the corner and not getting called. Bloody trouble!

[/quote:rb64n527]Yes there’s a meeting tonight. I believe tonight is the regular monthly meeting, last week was an extra special meeting to cover a pile of business and spend some three hours doing it <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” />
KyleMember"Chris":fvfpqi9e wrote:Agreed. Here’s an example:Chris: “Kyle, you are an annoyingly tall man. And when I say tall, I mean really fucking tall. You can reach the puck in places that you shouldn’t be able to. Screw you for being so tall.”
Kyle: “Thanks for coming to me about that Chris, I will try to be less tall in the future, as I know that it annoys people when I can have one leg on each of the blue lines, and am in fact taller than God. I also have a complaint about you, Chris. My complaint is that you are too awesome. Your awesomeness really gets me down, and makes me feel hollow inside.”
Chris: “I understand Kyle. Many people feel this way.”
[/quote:fvfpqi9e]Yeah. Like that. But, less in Chris’ mind, and more in reality <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif" alt="” title=”Wink” />
KyleMember"Chris":xww4h9si wrote:Yes, I disagreed with the ref. It’s not like I physically attacked him or anything, or even swore. Let’s not get toooo damn precious about it, hmm?
[/quote:xww4h9si]That wasn’t precious. That was me poking fun at you. You inspired me <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt="” title=”Smiley” />
KyleMemberExcuse me while I add Chris to the list of players who didn’t agreed with a call when they were put in the penalty box. My what a long list is it!
And on the other side… the very short list of players who admitted that the referees got it right.
The style that you play Chris is often pushing the boundaries of interference, so you can expect to get called on it sometimes. I’m sure Phil Handcock would be happy to talk to you about why, which might help you adjust your play.
I have a similar thing, but mine is holding. I have a long reach so I often reach around players and try and knock away the puck. It doesn’t take much for that to end up being a holding call.
KyleMember"Ryan":26bkovpr wrote:Fast reply to my PM!Ryan Wick claims this has nothing to do with me and it’s between Kyle and him.
I’ll be moving Kyle’s post in here as it does seem to have upset him for whatever reason. Personally I thought it was funny, but anyhows …
[/quote:26bkovpr]Yeah, fair enough to move the post. Or delete it, up to you.
I wish if people had a problem with me that they’d come up to me and say “Hey Kyle, I have a problem with…” rather than… whatever this method of dealing with it is.
KyleMemberHi,
Umm, I can see all ip addresses now.
I can split threads – or at least, it goes to the thread splitting control panel, I didn’t push the button to test it further than that.
No I can’t see the Beasts thread. It’s the exclusive nature of the whole thing that really hurts.
