That’s mainly coz I’m lacking information on them. The Premier team is a mess and apart from the Beasts, the rest of the teams are a complete mystery to me. I’m now in constant contact with Krissi Wood who has been awesome when it comes to information about the Peewees so that side of things is rapidly changing, so peewees information is definitely doable. Midgets I don’t know jack about and ditto for Juniors. The Beasts are making their own site so I don’t really need to cover what they’re doing.

The idea is great though! I just need the information <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

All good ideas. But I need the info. first. I’m also keen not to have bits of information. I’d rather go the whole hog and have it a professional job done, not some half baked thing coz I dont’ have the necessary information. The number of users we have on the forum is making all this far easier now though as I can generally just post a question and someone ‘usually’ knows the answer to it.

Feel free to suggest in depth exactly what content should be where. Quite a few of the pages are a mess at the moment, leftovers from back when I first made the site which haven’t been updated.

I think there’s benefit in thinking of web sites as dynamic sources of information rather than static. We both know you’re never going to get all the information that you want out of the various parts of the association, it’d be better to have ‘here is the web page for the team’ and have it not complete, rather than have nothing for another year… and then another year. As you get bits of information you can update it. My department has me updating some pages every week or so. That’s the beauty of web sites.

If you think about the half-a-dozen things that a team page would have – information about the team and the requirements to be in it, contact details for the coach/manager, photo, list of players, results – well most of those you already have. It’d only be the rosters that you might be short of. We might not have an up-to-date photo, but that could be taken care of really easily. The results you have, the contacts you have, the requirements you have.

The SIHL page is chronically out-of-date and that’s all information that we have. There’s currently a prem competition, between Dunedin, Queenstown and Gore. We know what the teams are in the SNC grade etc etc. They need to be updated for 2007.

That page also needs contact details for all the SIHL clubs. That info is here: http://www.nzicehockey.co.nz/otago/index.htm. It’s out-of-date, but you could link to it at least and when it gets updated it’ll be correct. If it’s the official SIHL page then it needs to provide a way that people can get in contact with their local club.

I don’t think anyone is going to come look at the page, find it doesn’t have a roster, and then think the web site is less. I think we just need to get on and build the structure and pretend we’re Kevin Costner and that the information will come. Once you’ve got a page you can email the manager and say ‘please provide this information, here’s your page’. Better to have something than nothing.

I hope he wears the blue stampede shorts. As Borat would say… Very Niiice!

Well done Stefan. It was just a year and a half ago that you emailed me and queried about buying ice skates!

Also, the SIHL page is way out of date. There’s results at the top that contradict what it says at the bottom about who plays, because the info at the bottom is 2006.

I was looking at the Queenstown Ice Hockey web site the other day.

Not as good as ours at all, and rather out of date in most places, but they had one thing which I think we could work on having on our web site.

Their menu is largely about their teams. Their structure is a bit different than ours, but I’d like us to give a bit more prominence to teams where possible. On this page: http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/sihl/ there’s a little information about the grades, but we don’t really have any information about the Dunedin Peewees, the Dunedin Midgets, etc.

It’d be nice if we could add an additional item to the menu bar ‘Teams’, which provided links to Peewees, Midgets, Juniors, Women, Ducks, Beasts, Prems, DIHL teams (just to the DIHL page) etc.

The web site doesn’t have all the information that would be ideal, but it does have a bunch. We could start to build rosters, lists of games played this year etc. Add a photo, I think players would like their team to have their own little bit of the world.

One of the ways people come to the site is searching for player names. If we start to have those player names in their teams, it will also be another way for people to come to the site.

Aaron isn’t getting enough hugs. Perhaps instead of warmups, you could all just have a big cuddle before your next game.

    Ugh, no that sucks.

You just totally spammed my unread posts with news from the homepage. I have to click on them all to clear them.

I mean, I see it’s useful for the future, but I’ve already read all that news!

You might want to note, junior games this weekend are 10am and 4:30pm, as well as the peewee ones.

Well Joe, it’s like when I’m refereeing a game, and I find some money in my skates (which I like to call ‘home’ and ‘away’) before I put them on.

I find things on the internet, I don’t ask where they came from!

But seriously, Jaimee’s stick looked just like that. I was watching and thinking – wow, that looks just like that photo of Joe’s. What’s with goalie’s losing their sticks to the side of the net?

Hello Kyle, what do you mean..? A goalie do work for a change??????

    Hey Jaimee!

I saw you on Sunday with your stick leaning up against the goal Jaimee. I think you’d taken a quick nap while Ryan was skating around in circles.

It looked just like this though.

I was having major deja vu! A NHL star in the making you are.

First up, Bullfrogs take on John McGlashan. My pick: Frogs to take it 4-2.[/quote:a51g9giq]

Oh no, no good at all. Bullfrogs thought they were in with a top chance when they saw Shane McDonald suiting up for Johnnies in goal. Just put shots on net, they’ll go in you think. Except for the inability to get shots on net – only 13 on in the whole game, only 5 in the first two periods (for 3 goals). Johnnies OB do better, and take 5 goals, knocking Bullfrogs out of the running. Bullfrogs simply don’t play well enough for winning of hockey games. Oh the heartbreak.

Secondly, Phantoms take on Sharks. My pick? I’m going for a draw actually. Excuse me while I step further out on this limb.[/quote:a51g9giq]

Not out on the limb far enough apparently! This was a hell of a game. Phantoms were looking good at 2-0 up at the end of the first period, and then 3-1 up going into the third. Big turnaround in the 3rd with three unanswered goals, and Sharks holding on for the win. Sykes, Wilson, and Roth (a double) score for Sharks, with Wilson getting the winner. Christos (a double) and King net for Phantoms. Bryant able to shut out seven shots in the last period, including a couple of big saves on Christos breakaways, Metzger unable to do the same at the other end letting in three goals off eight shots. Phantoms will be ruing a couple of shots that hit uprights at various stages in the game, and a third period where they seemed to tire and let the Sharks back into it.

Plenty of heat in the game, not too many penalties, but a real fast paced game with plenty of feeling. One player even took out his frustration at a goal by breaking his stick on the goalpost. A great game to watch.

Well, like I said to Mark, I think the DIHL Beasts are probably a bit much for their B grade. But it’s the holidays so who knows who won’t be here. I don’t want to be fanatical about balance, but they’ve specifically asked that we try and match up the teams so it’s an enjoyable game – last time they were here they caught a bit of a whalloping I think.

If Mark still wants to try his team against an A grade team in an upcoming Sunday I’ll try and organise that. I’d prefer him to test that with a local team first rather than a team that’s touring from the other end of the country. If that works out OK then I’m happy for the Beasts to front up twice.

I’d be inclined to post this in the main forum. There may be some randoms out there keen to pull a team together we don’t know about. I’ve emailed it to Deb Handcock in case she wants to pull together a 2007 Bears/2006 Bullfrogs DIHL B-grade team.

    Ryan,
    [/quote:10t4cvhd]

Yeah, I will do, once I have the times locked down.

But I want to give existing teams the opportunity first. I suspect the B grade will organise itself that way, and the A grade will take more work.
