I’m writing an email to Phil at this very moment, which I might paste some bits of it in.
I ended up finding the Dunedin juniors play quite disturbing by the end of the day, but like Mark, I think we need to know better what’s a legal hit so we can be more confident about our calling.
KyleMemberStampede, from Italy.

I like the name Dunedin Penguins but I also like the name Aetora Attack because yu could put Maori art on the sleeves. Here are some ideas I came up with.
(The art I found on-line but I liked it beacase the golf-club looks like a hockey stick.)
[/quote:2ygcw5sg]It would feel really weird to me to start claiming the club as having some relationship with Maori imagery, names etc, when as far as I know the club and the rink don’t have any relationship with the tangata whenua. That would feel like cultural appropriation to me.
KyleMemberInteresting to look at the squads (not necessarily teams that turned up) on http://www.nzicehockey.co.nz.
Canterbury squad has four U18 players, and 3 U20, more than they’re required to. At least three of those U18 players got heaps of time over the weekend. Stampede and Admirals both have 5 age grade players. Swarm have a massive 10 players age grade – in fact almost their entire team is either age grade, or imports – they have only 5 NZ seniors? Beat Admirals both times over the weekend too. Lots of young’uns.
KyleMemberStatistics tend to take a wee while to make it online. They’ll be up here when they’re done:
KyleMemberUmm, this Amadeus Schifferle?
KyleMemberDammit someone fetch the whip. Ryan needs sorting out again.
KyleMemberInstead of putting the date in the title and then printing the title on the main page, why not just put the date from the calendar entry and then just the title without the date? Because you’ve got a bunch wrong in the calendar and they don’t match the dates they’re in, and the date information is already stored in the calendar.
KyleMemberThat sequence just above Joe is the bit I described in my mini-report. Great photos of it. Your camera must turn over incredibly fast to take the photos that quick. That would only be a second or so of action in 4 shots.

Similar to players like Ovechkin putting a goal into the other teams net during a warm-up. He almost got his head taken off for that. It’s all about protecting your home turf.
[/quote:vongzau5]Which I wouldn’t mind too much, except a couple of Canterbury players were winding it up by staying on for five minutes mucking around shooting. And there’s only a certain amount of time for a groom and getting the ice ready. Anyway…
KyleMemberYeah good on you Ryan for offering to do a tricky job. I don’t think it’s something that people are used to having here.
First game I was goal judging at the other end and you came across reasonably clearly. Second game I was up in the stand behind you and a fair way to your right and it wasn’t so clear. There’s maybe a need for more speakers at that end of the rink pointing to the grandstand?
I had trouble understanding you most when you were talking over music. The second game because the sound wasn’t so good, I interpreted the referee calls for people around me because it was just difficult to hear you properly.
I’d agree with Ryan Hellyer about not using the extended names to make it more exciting. It didn’t help with the understanding.
I would increase your volume a fair bit. I never found you too loud, and given that it was quieter in some parts of the rink making it a little loud for some people would be OK if it helped other people hear.

I know that the NZIHL were keen on a new team from Dunedin, and there was even talk of Auckland loaning players to Dunedin to help bolster the team (if needed or requested).Peter

Well that is an interesting piece of information Peter.
I suspect that Dunedin will be pushing this further. I don’t think politics is a good reason to split, as we will still be involved in the southern region for lots of other hockey. But the growing strength of our premieres, the finances and push that are waiting down here – if the NZIHF is in favour, then hopefully this is going to move forward this year for 2008.
KyleMemberWorked well in my 20 second test this morning in firefox 2 for the mac.
I think there should be some order to the sub-items. Alphabetical if nothing else.
What do the *s mean?

I would have picked him as being a good impact player to throw on for a few short shifts per period at the least but I don’t think he was used at all in either game – weird decision that one.Ryan,
[/quote:q6gy6xb0]
Yeah, I’ve only ever played him in SNC, so I’ve not seem him much in contact games. But he’s certainly a very good player, and I can clearly remember bouncing off him once with great similarities to a brick wall, and I weight 100kg, so not many things feel like that to me.
Incidentally, both teams rejigged their lines last night. By the middle of the second period the Canterbury team had split up that junior line that was so successful the night before. Not sure if they’d done it all along, but they certainly didn’t do so well apart as they did the night before together. The difference is that Canterbury gave their lot plenty of game time.
KyleMemberYeah, where Ryan said 3-4 to Stampede, he meant Stampede won in case that leads to confusion.
Much better game. I didn’t think Canterbury played as well as they did last night. Partially because Stampede played better, partially they just didn’t play as well. Their goalie – Ericson – man he’s good. He made one save in the second period where he was drawn to his right post and half taken out, and the puck went to the Stampede player on the other side and he stretched right across and blocked the shot. The Stampede player was just shaking his head wondering how the hell the goalie stopped it.
Stampede were much better heading up ice and got some good passes to high on the neutral zone. Canterbury also caught more penalties, including a couple of 5 on 3s, so things evened up there. Stampede had to put on a heap of pressure to break the defence of Canterbury, but cracks were there and they got through. They worked better to shut down the attacks, but Stampede also had a much better day in goal – they’d made some changes in personnel here I think.
Good on the sign makers and the peewee kids who went around to support Stefan and the other players who didn’t get to play any hockey. No pie for the coach for again not putting them on the ice. Christos at least got some reasonable shifts. I didn’t see Soper, Freer etc out there at all. I note the regulations say that they have to have a certain number of younger players on their roster. Of course it doesn’t mention having to play them. I wonder what happens if they all quit in disgust? Are they still on the roster then?
There’s a heap of photos here from the NZIHF photographer: http://www.flickr.com/photos/aoraki/set … 267278154/
The peewees house league game beforehand finished up a 4-4 draw I think, and was a good game. But man, those kids need to get off the ice when they’re told to change up. I could have made about 6 delay of game calls against the red team!
Peewees and Juniors play tomorrow – peewees at 8:30 and 11:30, juniors at 10am and 4:30pm – all against Alexandra. Come along and see some more hockey.
