KyleMember
I hear his rap which he does at the end of year party or something, complete with bling, is really worth seeing.
KyleMemberI have several working scanners, if someone can physically bring me the article.

KyleMemberThe 10% rule is an agreement between the Copyright Licensing Authority, or whatever it’s called, and educational institutions. I’m not sure if it’d codified in law or if it’s just an agreement. There are exceptions to the 10% as well – it’s 10% or an article or chapter, whichever is larger etc.
Anyway, there are exceptions in copyright law. A common one which is invoked is satire. You can take an advert off TV, mash it up and re-publish it in satire of the original, and then claim fair use of copyrighted material for satire purposes. There’s others to do with news/media reporting, though if the story has a photograph with it that would be trickier to get around as the law I think is stricter on those.
KyleMemberNot necessarily. Just because everything is copyright upon publication doesn’t mean you need to get permission to reproduce it. There are exceptions to copyright.
It would also depend on the agreement (or lack of) between the NZIHL, the rink, and the ODT.
Either way, the ODT isn’t going to sue if you credit them. And they probably won’t even sue if you don’t credit them. And they’ll probably never know.
KyleMemberI sent them onto Ryan a couple of weeks ago. *points finger*
KyleMemberThat’s some nice work Ryan.
I voted for Thunder, but I actually prefer the miners colours. If you could put the thunder logo and name on the miners top, that’d look really good. I liked the Thor image more than the D with hammer image. I think everyone is going to struggle trying to make something interesting out of the letter D.
And besides, as much as it’d be corny and overdone, AC/DC did this song a bunch of years ago which is just the perfect song for when a team called Thunder comes out on the ice. That’s some good energy to start your warmup.
Dragons is OK as a name, but I think red and black is a colour we should stay away from, particularly once we start to talk about a future NZIHL team. Orange wouldn’t clash with any of the existing teams. Maybe a NZIHL team would have a different name/colours, so perhaps that’s not a problem.
The HCD colours are OK, but the name… I can see how it would build up a lot of history where it is, but I think it’d be a turnoff here. Also, the order of the words might might sense in Europe where they speak languages which order the words differently, but I think here it might not come across as well, where DHC or most likely DIHC would be how we’d say the name, and you don’t really want to name the team Dihc!
Good stuff.
KyleMemberThat’s US$.
When I was stateside last year in April, I looked into getting into an NHL game. Rangers were sold out (and really expensive). Islanders was about $90 for seats right at the back. Devils was similar. If you wanted seats down near the ice, you were starting to talk about $150 – $200.
So I went to an AHL Game instead. The fans were more entertaining watching Hershey Bears beat up on Philadelphia Phantoms anyway, for about a third of the price.
KyleMemberIt’s not a breach of copyright if you scan the page and put it up. It’ll be clearly identified as an ODT story.
Breaching copyright would be stealing the story and putting it somewhere as your own work.

The company is a Western Canadian company. BC and Alberta.

KyleMemberMy son has a radio controlled boat, and a couple of years ago we took it with us to Wellington to visit my family and went to a park with a big pond. Radio controls have a frequency, and if there’s another controller in the area with that frequency transmitting, the signals get mixed up. Of course, there was another kid with the same frequency, and so my son’s boat started getting mangled directions.
So I told him to just leave it for a while and play with some of the other kids and try it later on and see if it worked then – when the other person had left. He went off to play with some other kids.
About half an hour later I tracked him down – he was operating as gang leader, and wandering around with his radio control full on, but his boat off, trying to make a mess of the other person’s boat. His new friends were egging him on, encouraging him to interfere with the other kid’s boat. I wasn’t too impressed.
That’s who guest is to me – someone who is wandering around and anonymously making a mess of constructive things that other people are doing. I don’t mind people making constructive criticism, in fact I encourage it. I don’t mind negative criticism too much, as long as people are willing to front up about it so I know where it’s coming from.
This however is a silly little game played behind the supposed anonymity of the internet. It’s attacking people and it’s not offering anything constructive. I don’t mind people playing silly little games, but when they attack people it goes beyond that.
The main difference between the two is that my son was seven, Guest isn’t. There are lots of things he could devote his time to in relation to ice hockey that are way more constructive and useful to the club than maintaining multiple online personalities.
KyleMember"Ryan":1wjn3viy wrote:Simple solution to the goal judges problem is to just do what we did in the DIHL previously. Made it compulsory for teams to front with goal judges, if they don’t they’re penalised. I can’t imagine teams wouldn’t bothered arranging goal judges if they lost points for it. That’s basically how the South Island Region Inline Hockey League worked and there was rarely any goal judges missing.
[/quote:1wjn3viy]I never saw any southern region teams get penalised for not fronting for duties – including us a few times when it happened.
Anyway, someone else’s problem from next Tuesday. We should definitely have goal judges for the final though. Any volunteers?

Or y’know. Shoes.
KyleMemberHeh. No, Never been to Texas. Closest I ever got was Nor’leans.
It’s clearly a bustling metropolis though. Top news ‘highlight’ on their web site is ‘The City of Kyle is now under our Stage One Water Management Plan!’ It’s the exclamation point that makes it clear just how exciting that is in Kyle, TX.
Other big news in Kyle, TX:
“The opening of Kyle’s first full service grocery store is still a few weeks away, but other retailers are rapidly filling in the surrounding store fronts in anticipation of HEB’s grand opening in June.”
Wow, my town is about to open a grocery store. Sweet.
