The guy has albums out as well – you can pick them up on Amazon. They’re very good. Not sure what he’s like live.

I’d gotten home from… well a sequence of bars really. And when I get home I let my dogs out for a wee while since they’ve been stuck inside for six hours already. And what better thing to do at 3 in the morning?

What are you doing up so early/late huh?

I’m sensing a teeny bit of bitterness in the room, but I’m having trouble telling where it’s coming from…

If I’d have thought you’d remove those posts, I would have asked. I didn’t want to put you in the position of being asked to do so however.

I’d say leave them. They’re not abusing him personally, they’re critiquing the job he did/is doing, and while they’re not exactly constructive, they’re also not entirely inaccurate. We’ve reminded people to treat organisers nicely, and I suspect it won’t be repeated. I think people have the right to be critical, as long as they’re not an arsehole about it.

If (and I’m just going worst case scenario here), it all goes to shit and Kara quits in frustration and the DIHL falls apart, and people start using the forums to say more, and stronger, then I’d again try and redirect it – to the committee which is really where that should go.

If the complaint came from Larry himself, and he found it upsetting, I might reconsider that.

And, as Mark says, he, and Chris can remove or edit their own posts if they so choose.

Which posts are we looking at?

I’m somewhat ambivalent. It’s not good, but it’s been stomped on now. No one offered to remove posts when I was catching a lot worse from Mr Guest, for doing a lot better job.

Yeah. Cheers to Ryan, and Larry, and Stefan for taking trainings while we await Bode’s return. Last night was kinda crud – we split the trainings because we had 34 people at the first one, now 20 of those people have stopped coming. There’s a fair few open grade players who are registered for the team but didn’t show last night. There were two Beasts out of their whole team at one of the two practices. The managers for either practice weren’t there.

Like Ryan said, everyone is paying for these practices, so not turning up doesn’t make much sense, unless you’ve got a heap of money floating around that you aren’t attached to.

Thanks, the problem with the emailing is that neither Larry or I know how to enter more than one address in the field at a time. This is how I had to do the email list for Bode’s thank you gift.
    [/quote:3jovs2hk]

    Man that’s painful.

I think the dihl email address just allows you to paste multiple addresses in, from excel or whatever. Most email programmes certainly do.

If you can’t get it working, if you let me know who you want to send it to and provide a message, I can send it out to people.

But apparently Jack’s already got it sorted, according to his post above. You guys are sweet.

The Jets are going to be a problem. In my opinion we are not ready to play the likes of the Sharks and Old Bastards, but neither are we going to be completely satisfied playing in the B-grade. We also do not have enough players to run a four team A-grade with out the women on the Jets team. (Larry wants there to be four teams so it is all even on the roster.) But taking last years B-grade Beasts and the women out of the B-grade takes away most of the B-grade player base.
    [/quote:1z17lcco]

My suggestion would be, take four or five players out of the jets, put them in the Bullfrogs. There’s some people there that are absolutely B grade players. Abandon any idea that it can be a womens team, just make it the jets.

Then your problem is rebuilding the jets. I’d try Sam Smith, Shane McDonald, Andre van Leeuwen, Jono Elkin, Nigel Dobson, Rane Phipps-Black, Richard Parr. Umm, Taylor Skinner? Lathan Storm? Peter Mannerswood? I’m not sure if those last ones are still in town, but worth trying. Andre might want to bring his son Joss in as well. I don’t know if Pete Sanford is still around, but him too. A few phone calls could probably get three or four players, I suspect some of these guys just don’t know about the DIHL.

I’d also go along to the midgets, SNC, and open practice tonight and just see who isn’t signed up, and slot them into Bullfrogs/Jets.

I will email you a different version of my last contact list if that helps.

The old person team was, shall we say, running a short bench, so another player or two there wouldn’t go astray, but probably not such a priority.

Umm, the Sharks Beasts game wasn’t too bad. The Beasts goalie is new to ice hockey, and I would guess didn’t have a great save percentage. He’ll get better with more time between the posts. The Sharks really had more structure, and individual talent, but skating speed was OK between the teams and Beasts had a reasonable number of chances on net. It was way closer in terms of a contest than the Old people vs Jets game, which I suspect would have blown out to about 15 goals if it hadn’t shifted down a couple of gears.

The Beasts also lacked structure in all the important areas of the game – breakout, offensive zone, D-zone coverage. It was the most noticeable difference between the two teams. If they fixed that I suspect it would have been a lot closer. Beasts ironically had a better shorthanded team than their powerplay. Their shorthanded team spent a fair bit of time in the Sharks zone playing catch and pass, and only let one shot at their goalie. Their powerplay just sucked, couldn’t get into the zone, gave up a shorthanded goal. They needed to switch to a dump and chase or try something different – Sharks were just standing on the blue line, blocking the man skating in and going back the other way.

I didn’t see the Kings Johnnies game, apparently it was ‘scrappy’, but there’s some reasonable players out there. Bulls Bullfrogs looked OK – Bullfrogs seemed to be largely made up of Kings players double-shifting, so it’d be difficult to make any long term assessments based on that, but Bulls played fairly well and those young kids are growing into good hockey players.

The less said about the old people vs Jets game the better, but I did drive Stefan really nicely into the boards and put him down on the ice. And no penalty too <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Kings beat Johnnies 6-2 (I think).
    Bulls beat Bullfrogs 6-1 (ish).
    Oldies beat women jets 8-2.
    Sharks beat Beasts 10-2.

I don’t think there is actually a contact list for people who attend beginners, though that would be sensible for us to have.

But they’re all there on Sunday night, have you given all of them an information sheet on the dihl and a registration form? There’s a fair few people from the midgets and open practice on Thursday night that don’t seem to be on your list either.

Have you done an email to the combined 2007 spring/autumn dihl lists? I’ve spoken to a number of people who played in one or both of those, and none of them seem to have received emails.

Yeah. I keep a record of DIHL games (southern league games you should get paid on the day), but people should keep their own record as well. In particular, if anything changes on the night (like, covering for someone or going from 2 man to 3 man) then let me know, as I’m not always at the rink.

I’m also going to try and make it clear when games are paid and unpaid. A couple of times people didn’t get paid for games they thought they should get paid for last year.

As a general rule, unless something changes, peewee and midget saturday night house league games are unpaid. I always do the peewee one, as my son is playing. If we have problems getting volunteers for the midget one (it’s probably a two ref game now that they’re playing checking) then we’ll see about changing that situation. I might try and train up a couple of the parents who play hockey to be linesmen and referee it as well, we’ll see.

High school will be $20/game if you’re doing it yourself, but $15/ref if it’s a 2-man game. I thought that was fair enough given that the games are so quick, and you’re there for less time as there’s very few grooms.

Ditto to what Ryan said. If people have problems, suggestions, complaints etc, they should keep it private and approach the organisers directly.

Compliments and words of appreciation would no doubt also be welcome, they can be public or private. Kara and Larry have taken a big leap with trying to organise an 18 game season, and neither of them have done it before. Hope things start to come together tomorrow and everyone gets some good hockey.
