I got an email from Auckland today. Their A grade goalie is injured and may not be making the trip.

If that’s the case, we’d be able to offer games for more than the two goalies we have currently – as long as they don’t mind playing with Auckland.

I thought the imports angle was just the way to get the story on tv. It’s just as likely to have come from the NZIHF as from the media. TV news is free publicity remember.

I concur with Ryan about the better than NZers angle. The Swedish goalie – Ericsson, I think most people who saw him play down here thought he was pretty good. The Hungarian guy? I can’t remember him at all from the games down here. Maybe he had a good game, but the player of the first game I would have given to Paris or his two linemates. I wonder what the stats say about domestic vs international players.

Though it’s pretty impressive to get someone who’s had 50 caps for Hungary playing down here I guess.

it mangled the menu and put it down the page in a full tree, fully expanded when I came to teh forum the first time.

I hit reload and it worked fine. Might have been a caching issue with an included file or something.

On that basis Aaron we could be called the ‘pansies’ and adjectiveise it with ‘mighty’.

He’s not in favour of the ‘mighty miners’ either! Mining just isn’t a very exciting activity it seems.

It’s been sent out to everyone in the DIHL, and to all the Ducks as well. I don’t have any contacts beyond that, if anyone does they should feel free to pass it on.

I don’t particularly care who plays – if people want to play, they should get back to me and let me know, it’s pretty much first to let me know is into the team. If people are organised enough to play twice, then I’d rather have that then have a team short on numbers, which is the other possibility. Stampede are playing that weekend, so there are going to be a bunch of people away playing, or supporting in Queenstown. Ducks play two games that Sunday, so I can’t imagine many of them will be signing up.

I’ve already told the Beasts that their team might be too strong for Auckland’s B grade team, who I think will probably have quite a few beginners. If that’s the case, then these players who are signing up for the A grade are the ones I’d hope they lop off the top of their B grade team.

I talked to my son on the way home from peewees practise last night about the names. His first suggestion (inevitably) was the Ducks, he’s a Ducks fan and was very happy when they won the cup.

He was going to think about it some more, but he didn’t like the Miners as soon as I said it. Said it was a bit of a boring name.

I used Safari for a number of years at work. It was superior to anything else out there at the time, but it had a problem with cache or something building up and it slowed down, and you needed to clear it every few weeks. I gave up on that and switched to firefox a couple of years ago.

Safari loads as an application, and pages, about twice as fast as either IE or mozilla. If they have fixed the caching problem, it’d probably be about as good as firefox 2 overall. There’s a ton of quirky features that you can add into it, though firefox has picked up a lot of them since.

OK cheers. I’ll see if I can lock down the days to confirm that.

I should also note, that the game probably conflicts with Stampede games. So if you’re planning to play in that, or planning to be in Queenstown watching on the Saturday night, then you might be unable to play.

Ah yes, I have you down.

It may be that it backs onto the Beasts game, so as long as you’re willing to double shift games.

I’m not sure, but I suspect they’re probably fairly busy learning their synchro stuff, without having to find a pair of pom poms and do high kicking cheers.

That’s even presuming they’re interested. And one would hope that the prems would return the favour and turn up in leotards to cheer on the figure skaters when they’re competing! That’ll bring in the crowds.

Yeah thanks Peter, good advice there.

I believe our meeting that was to be tonight has been cancelled due to exams and stuff. Possibly back on next Monday. Hopefully that’ll provide some more help.
