Apparently it’s some cunning plan on the behalf of rink management to stop us inviting teams down and decrease the amount of hockey that gets played. Or something.

People who have played tonight will know this already.

All along Auckland have been saying that they’re sending a B and A team.

As it turns out, they’ve sent one team, probably two-thirds B players, the rest A. There’s some reasonable players there, but I think both the A teams we’ve put together will walk all over them. The jets tonight swapped Jacque for Toby in goal.

If they’d said it was going to be one mixed team, I would have organised things differently, but they’ve just had people drop off and they’ve continued as if they had two teams. So what can you do?

Help needed:

I’m looking for someone (18 or over I guess) who can be at the rink from 9:30 onwards – either a player playing in either of the games, or anyone else – who can help out by manning the bar from 9:30 onwards. Alcohol and food will be there, it just needs someone to open bags of chips and serve beer and fruit juice.

It’s good protocol to welcome the visiting team and put on some chips and drinks and whatnot. But I can’t be there to do it, and I’ve had four other rejections already.

So if anyone can help tonight, I’d appreciate it.

I’m still not satisfied with charging and boarding in contact games. There’s unfortunately none of those good hockey canada interpretation videos on either topic. I thought that meeting we had the other week fixed charging for me, but then I thought about classic mid-ice checks, and that threw it into confusion for me again.

So if either Peter or Jerome have any thoughts on exactly what does/doesn’t make those two calls, I’d appreciate it. Failing that, hopefully at nationals we’ll be able to hit you up for some tips.

I really couldn’t care what individuals do, if they want to take photos of themselves and then sell them off for money, up to them.

This was a national sporting team however, not individuals. I don’t think players who represent their country in a sport should have to consider the question of “do I want to save some money for this trip to play for NZ, by selling pornographic images of myself?”, which is what they had to consider. It’s not a form of fundraising that everyone could front up for.

And I was really surprised that NZIHF let them do it.

Also note that there will be drinks in the social room after the Saturday night games (9:30 or so), so everyone should feel welcome to come and have a drink and socialise with the Auckland crew.

Blah. Who else saw the calendar that the NZ womens team did to help fund their trip to Europe. That was embarrassing. No one should either have to, or I think, be allowed to go down that path in order to represent their country.

I got confirmation from Joyce last night that midgets house league isn’t on this Saturday. She got that from Tracy.

I presume that Ryan is talking about the Sunday SIHL games between Dunedin and Queenstown. Either way I’m happy with the confirmation that I’ve got.

There’s a rumour going around that Queenstown SNC aren’t coming either, but currently that’s just a rumour.

Saturday 30th June

6:30 – Beasts vs Auckland B
8:00 – Jets vs Auckland A

Sunday 1st July

7:00 – Kings HS vs Auckland B
8:30 – Stars vs Auckland A

Note the changed times on Saturday. I’ll be emailing everyone tomorrow.

Hey Ryan,

Can you confirm if the midgets house league game is on this Saturday? I was getting the impression that it was cancelled from now on from lack of numbers, but I wasn’t sure, and no one that I’ve spoken to so far seems to have a definitive answer.

If it’s cancelled I’ll move these games forward to 6.30, if it’s still on then they’ll stay at 7.30.
