Good game tonight, pretty good feeling, exciting finish.

5-4 to Sharks off a 4 seconds to go goal from James VL, shorthanded (it was just about 3 on 5 shorthanded, Joe jumped on the ice just before he scored it on the breakaway).

Sharks looked like they’d run away with it when they went 3-1 pretty early, but Jets came back well.

No commitment! Those 30 second breaks you got when Steve and Andre were covering D – you should have been up and down the boards with the camera!

    Joe,

I’m not refereeing tonight, but I’ll be coming down partway through the game anyway. I’d be keen to look at elbow pads, socks if you’re going to be playing – afterwards or something.

I knew I should have played on a different team from Joe! There’ll be 50 photos of everyone else, and one of me.

Where’s my photo from when I was lining Joe?

You might recognise that Albury player on the left at the front there Ryan. He’s a Sniper. I didn’t get a chance to talk to him – just before I left I went and asked him – he’d come down for some reason and was playing his first game of ice hockey. I didn’t see him play – wonder if he was any good.

The Dunedin Prems were pretty well outclassed in the final by the Ice Blacks, I mean the Stampede, I mean the Queenstown rangers (there were 7 current ice Blacks on the roster) 8 – 1. There was a distinct difference in skill levels.

That’s a little harsh. The Rangers were all over the prems, but some of our guys were playing at a pretty good level. Stefan did pretty well and got some shots off, James was pretty good, and Pav (sp?) caused them problems and got the goal on a breakaway. Simon was pretty well shut down, I figure the other team are used to playing with him and targeted him.

Those QT guys though, they’re not only good all over the ice, but they’re drilled to crap. They always knew where players were going to be, they made Aaron’s life hard with great cross ice passes in front of the net, and they didn’t make many mistakes. It was a pretty physical game, which everyone seemed to enjoy.

Best goal would have been Jenel’s breakaway against them the day before. She had a really good look at it but the goalie stopped it. SIHL women played really well this year, they’ve got a really good team and they cleaned up Maniototo – Mallory got a big goal – and played well against Queenstown A. Their goalie – Mary – she was on fire in that game. Megan’s achievements on the ice were overshadowed by splitting her jeans on the back of the bull.

Old Bastards played OK, but had a pretty mangled first game where we got from 1-3 down to 4-4, before letting in two goals. We just weren’t together as a team and our defense and offense was very patchy. We started to get it sorted when playing Dunedin prems, which was played at a much better pace on our part, and then cleaned up well against Gore.

The new rink was very cool, the ice was incredibly hard, but it wasn’t as cold as Naseby last year I thought. Really lovely though, and once they’ve fixed up a few things like putting something down over the concrete in the changing rooms, it’ll be great.

Hey, never mind the swarm, what’s the 411 on the Cadbury Cup Video? I want to see the clip of that guy hitting me at the blue line.

How many kiwis know what Joe means when he says 411?

For those who think he’s talking gibberish, it’s an info line, like phoning telecom directory here.

That’ll be the best armed beginner I’ve ever seen. Larry only started playing this year, Easton Synergy stick, that’s nutty!

I have days where I couldn’t hit a beach ball on the ice.

Nah, he’s just going to sneak them into the car before the buyer drives off, and then blame the kids.

“Well it doesn’t matter if you’re sure that you got them out of the car. They’re not here. You must have left them in the car. They’re gone now. Man, you guys really need to look after your gear better. Those sticks cost me a lot of money! Doesn’t grow on trees you know…”

I’m not sure what use it would be. The Trashers use it to sell tickets. Not something that is an issue for us, given that even when we do sell tickets, we don’t sell specific seats.

I think we should get Joe to take some panoramas from centre ice, with the camera right near the ice. That’d be a good shot to have.

Andre had two options as goalie, and one sounded keen, so I’m sure he’s got it sorted.

I think there should be 6-7 old bastards staying with you, dont know the exact numbers but it will be the bulk of the team. We play against each other on thursday nite apparently so we could finalise numbers then.

    We are? When?

There’s 11 Old Bastards, but Nigel is staying out of town, so 10 in Tekapo.

Must be a slow afternoon down at the shop!

My cell phone is currently somewhere between the vodafone shop and the repair place. So I can’t text anyone. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt=":(” title=”Sad” />

But yes, I’m in for the accommodation please. Thanks for fronting up and organising it.

Ah I see how you’re doing it. $400/2.5 hours isn’t private rates. Private rate is $200/hour. That’s closer to the club rates – which would be $375 for 2.5 hours.

Though Neil indeed wouldn’t allow the $150, because he’s a profiteer plundering upon local players whenever they play a team who’s paid large amounts of money to come play us. Ahem. If you get that amount of time for $400 you’re doing OK.
