So this really confused me coz I didn’t understand what Clear meant!

But as Chris kindly pointed out, I was on psychotropic drugs when those comments were posted, so that may explain my lack of understanding <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif" alt=":P” title=”Tongue” />

Actually I also thought that Mark was saying that you ‘clear fell’ over, and was just using clumsy wording, rather than… TERRIBLE SPELLING of Claire’s name.

So I thought I was using clear as a cunning play on Claire’s name, but as it turns out, Mark messed that up for me. Dammit.

First game was a stunner, about 7-1 to the Jets.

Hellyer scores two own goals, and dislocates his shoulder. If he’d broken a stick it would have been what could have been known as a Hellyer hattrick.

The name of the team doesn’t mean diddily when it comes to where the players are from.
Vince played from southern Stampede last year but he came from Canterbury. The Team name indicates where the team is from, and since Southern is taken.

Dunedin is as good a geographical indicator of where the team is based as any. Same as Otago….
If the team is called the Dunedin Stars that doesn’t stop player not from Dunedin Playing.
Like the Otago Highlanders. Clearly Southland is not included in that Moniker but is included in the team.
Canterbury Crusaders where does the Nelson-Bays and West Coast fit into that name.
Wellington Hurricanes, (Bay of Plenty and Taranaki have arguement there.)
    the list goes on..

OK, it’s not the Otago Highlanders, Otago was dropped from the name in 2000 precisely because it doesn’t just include Otago, it includes Southland and North Otago.
Same with Canterbury Crusaders, Canterbury was dropped from the name, and Hurricanes, Wellington was dropped from the name. All the super 12 franchises had this done.

It doesn’t matter as far as I know where the players live. It’s the club they’re registered for. The events manual says:

    “2.2.4 Generic Players Eligibility
Players may only be registered to play for one region. Only players registered to a region may be selected to represent that region and can only transfer once a year (calendar year).”

To play for Stampede, Vince must have registered for a southern club.

And people can debate as much as they want how Dunedin would be a good name, as I understand it we’ve been told we can’t have Dunedin, Otago, or Southern, so it’s just wasting oxygen. The first two because they don’t represent the full region where players will be coming from, the last one because Stampede already has it.

We can’t use Otago because we’d be claiming the area that includes the Stampede. And because not all clubs are from Otago – Gore isn’t in Otago.

And to say it again, we can’t use Dunedin because not all the players will come from Dunedin. They could come from all the Southern clubs, so there will most likely be players from Alex, Gore, Maniototo, Queenstown etc in the Stars.

It won’t be Dunedin because it won’t include just players from Dunedin. All Auckland players have to be registered in Auckland I guess. Stars will just have to be registered for any southern club.

    Hi,

There’s a bit of further news on this from today’s meeting.

The team is going ahead, and the name is looking like being the Stars. Ryan Wick has done some really nice draft logo/tops etc.

Further information (requirements, trials etc) will be available in December once managers and coaches have been appointed. However at this stage, all enquiries, questions etc should go to Jackie Christos. If players or anyone else associated with the club hear from people who are interested in being involved with the team in any way, please direct them to Jackie, rather than responding yourself.

Phil is organising referees for the games, check with him to see if he gets volunteers.

That’s it. We’re banning old people from playing hockey now.

Or limiting them to games of 5 minute periods with a nap between the 2nd and 3rd.

Oh, and congrats to Deb Handcock for what was I believe her first ice hockey goal. A nice shot putting away some trash by the left post in the second period. Hard work eventually does pay off!

Where was the penalty shot? Mr Leftright gets away with flopping down on the puck in the middle of the crease.

You two can have a… I dunno. A love off for it. Put the Stanley Keg in the middle of the rink and **edited R18** and the last one standing can play.
