    Essentially, yes. :?

If you would like I’m happy to research it further after my exams are done (last one this saturday).

If anyone is seriously thinking of mounting a challenge, your first point of call should be to have a quick word with Paul Roth, since he not only plays Ice Hockey, but is also one of New Zealand’s foremost legal scholars.

Either way, there’s no law against forming a contact league outside the NZIHF umbrella – as a body they have no legal force, so if you guys want to form your own contact league and have girls play too then go for it <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gif" alt=":)” title=”Smiley” />

Well, I can’t really contribute much to the ice hockey side of things, but I can inform you that prohibiting women from playing contact hockey is perfectly legal.

Firstly, Ice Hockey leagues fail to meet the requirements of section 3, subsection b of the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990, and thus there is no remedy available for an curtailment of the right to be free from discrimination (racial, sexual or otherwise, contained in section 13 et seq.)

Secondly, section 44 subsection 3 of the Human Rights Act 1993 would seem to apply here, except that the aforementioned subsection is in fact subject to section 49 of the Act which provides exceptions for sporting contests.

In other words, I wouldn’t bother with a legal challenge: you’d be better off writing a sternly worded letter.

    Just my two cents,

    Chris.

Being a completely 100% useless player, I kinda like the seperation of A and B grade players. Now we just need an F grade league, and I can captain my own team! 😆
