Why would he tell you not to pay some of those costs? Theoretically, all historical costs should now be correct. Have you paid money to someone for fuel that you haven’t told me about?
I’m happy to guesstimate fuel costs and then alter them to actual values when we know the numbers, if that’s what everyone would like.
To do that, though, I’m going to need some confirmation of transport arrangements.
My trailer is available, so it’s probably not a bad idea to use it. So, that means three cars, or one car and Mike’s van.
Julian’s car would be a good choice for the third car (aside from mine and mike’s van) as it’s four-wheel-drive and relatively spacious, but obviously that’s up to Julian.
If we’re all going up at the same time (I’d recommend this), then it makes sense to attempt to get a bulk booking at somewhere cheap, and then I’ll tack that onto the bill once we know prices.
Does anyone feel like doing some reconnaissance regarding possible accommodation?

Chris.Just a note about fuel costs:
If one compares the Alex and Gore trips (where everyone sorted out their own transport arrangements), and the Queenstown trip (where, by and large, we arranged transport beforehand), there is a very marked difference in fuel efficiency.
Since this Christchurch trip is going to be [b:233ak8le]costly[/b:233ak8le] even as it is, I’d strongly suggest that we attempt to travel as efficiently as possible to achieve the greatest economies of scale. This means taking two cars and Mike’s van (if it’s available) with me taking the gear in the trailer or jamming it into the cars. Another option is to take four cars, three of which will carry four people and one or two sets of gear, and my car with the back seats out which will carry two people (including myself) and the rest of the gear.
Either of those two options will be much-for-muchness vis-a-vis fuel consumption (wow, that was a lot-of-hyphens).
Projections for transportation costs based on our three previous trips indicate that traveling to Christchurch by sorting out our own transportation would be approximately [b:233ak8le]57.3%[/b:233ak8le] more expensive than traveling by pre-organised methods.
Thus, it clearly benefits us all to organise our transportation in advance.
I know it’s early, but I just thought I’d throw that out there.

This way, the attack on my PC was a failure. I was already starting to think that I did not have to worry, but a good hacker never calls it a day. Two minutes later he returned.

(By the way, if you look at the way the averaging works out, you will get a much better deal for fuel by doing it this way).
Andy and rob also went up the previous night, and I was kinda wondering why I didn’t hear anything about fuel from them…
If I don’t, I’ll just guesstimate and give them a wee bit each, enough to at least cover the averaged team cost.
