We had beautiful ice, up to 10 cm thick, at Poolburn Dam. We circumnavigated the entire lake (~20 km), most of which was beautifully smooth near-black ice. There are a lot more photos to come, but here&#8217;s a few quick snapshots from the weekends activities until I find the time to process the rest of them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1639\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ryan.hellyer.kiwi\/2010\/07\/04\/skating-poolburn\/rocks1\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1639\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1639\" src=\"https:\/\/ryan.hellyer.kiwi\/files\/2010\/07\/rocks1-450x484.avif\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"484\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1639\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here you can see the &quot;crazy squares&quot; effect in the ice. The rocks you can see in the background are common throughout the lake and make for a terrific view across the huge expanse of ice.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1641\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ryan.hellyer.kiwi\/2010\/07\/04\/skating-poolburn\/rocks1\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1641\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1641\" src=\"https:\/\/ryan.hellyer.kiwi\/files\/2010\/07\/geese1-450x337.avif\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1641\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There were a lot of Canadian Geese in the area.
